Rio :D name

Thanks for message i gave it everything to be my best friend :D

Looks good! I'd approach him a little slower next time. I can sense how afraid you are from here! haha
I dont blame you though. I was the EXACT same way when I first got my macaw. Any little flinch I pulled away. Now I like his flinching so I can have the opportunity to train it out of him.

I saw that, too. Didn't mean to crack up laughing, but I did. As soon as Rio moved his head, the hand went flying backwards, HAHAHAH.

Oh I remember those times TOO well. :54:

I would try to focus on that "pulling the hand away" when he moves his head, it means you are scared of him (and like cstambaugh said we dont blame) and HE KNOWS THAT, they know if someone is scared of them, and they can abuse it.

Nevertheless, VERY VERY great job ! I like that he is SO calm. You must have felt awesome when you first touched him and he liked it :)

The more time you spend with him the braver you will get! That's why I got a little friendly looking bird as my first bird haha but now I confidently handle my partners sulphur crested. But no way am I confident with macaws yet! Maybe one day...

Rio will know if you are afraid. ;) They sense it. He may grab your hand, but he may not bite you (hard). He doesn't look uncomfortable, scared or suspicious. In fact, he looks calm and relaxed. While he is so relaxed, just scratch his neck with your hand, and see what happens.

It will take some time for the 2 of you to get to know each other. :)

You are doing great. If you are touching him with the sticks and he moves his head try not to react, if he bites the stick it's no big deal right? Then it will help build your confidence when you learn he is not going to bite every time he moves his head =) Some birds will take advantage if they notice you are scared, the too I mentioned takes great pleasure in harassing people who ar scared of her!

Your bird is amazingly relaxed and calm. He is in no way going to randomly attack you. You will know if he is going to bite you, its usually a few steps into them telling you to not do something. If you go to pet him and he moves away, he's saying no. If he moves his beak near your hand and opens it like he's scared of your hand, thats him saying no. If you keep forcing him, he may nip. If after a nip, you're still forcing him, thats when you're going to get bit.
Just because his beak goes near your hand doesnt mean he's going to bite. Its his curiosity, making sure you arent going to hurt him.

Very well done! Continue to work with him and you two will become very close very quickly.

Very well done!!!! Amazing!

You need to work your fear. For sure he knows about it, and will play with it.

You'll find macaw may have a nasty sense of humor (Like bite you and laugh his beak off :) )

Remember, his beak is like a hand, and he will use it to know you better, to help himself to move around, perhaps to climb your jeans. And learn his body language will make things much easier.
