First Time for Vet Visit - hoping the price is affordable

Taking the babies to their first vet visit ever (after getting them back in August). Praying for it to be cost-effective since I'm not raking in cash - and I do pray that it works itself out in regards to how everything rolls out. One of them had really ruffled tail feathers and I'm praying for a good analysis of things to play out - and a really good price for someone who just graduated and is seeking to get a PhD but not having all the finance there. I wanted to get a visit in before the year is out and I'm hopeful for it to go well.

An experienced and ethical avian vet will help prioritize the various tests generally offered, tailored to your finances. Hopefully they will both do well and be pronounced healthy!!

And a money tip; a normal vet is a waste of cash even if they "see birds." Only an avian vet is going to be worth the expense

FYI: In addition, those AV's commonly adjust costs when they are seeing two or more Parrots, since most lab work costs are in set-up! Running two tests is a bit less expensive. Also, every AV I have worked with are more than capable of providing costs in advance.

Thankful the trip went well. $124 total at the end of it all but I'm glad for the doctor (avian specialist) I went to. He and the assistant were very gracious in the entire process and helped to explain a lot of things. They were very well-behaved and calm in the entire process of being examined. I was also very glad that I got a lot of good resources - and we ended up going shipping as well and I bought them some new toys as we went to Pet Super-Market as well.

The main thing was for Qui Qui's feathers to be examined a couple of months later since they were a bit rough due to surfaces she probably traveled in. Also, as they were seen to be in good health, it helped to find out some things for the future with egg laying potentially. As it turns out, Qui Qui weighs more than PeaCee and that's generally the case with girls in comparison with boys - and it was cool to learn that specific trick in identification, although we didn't do DNA testing to see who was a girl or boy - but it was obvious. I am also glad for them looking out for each other as they always do (as they were born in the same clutch and having them together helped with their mental health). They are also growing their blue feathers which were clipped, meaning that they'll be able to fly around fully rather than simply glide. We'll be trimming them only so much when we cross that bridge at our next examination next year - but I am very glad one of my neighbors recommended me to the clinic I went to. Awesome quality of work and thankful for everyone who was supporting me in this endeavor.

Did they do base line blood work? that is important, in case anything DOES happen, cuz they can compare to a well bird. Conside it if those tests were not done. Think of those as x-mas presents to your 5 yr old future parrots.

That is about what I expect to pay for ONE bird for a well visit in my area so yes, I would say your vet was respectful of your finances glad it went well! And I second the notion of baseline blood work

Vet was top notch - and in the event I wasn't clear, as it was a Avian Wellness Exam ($62 per bird). As soon as my work/job situation becomes a bit more stable, I will make certain to do blood panels again since I wasn't the main one paying for this time - and there was another trip I was planning for in March next year anyhow. As they were 5-7 months old when they were bought back in August, there were some things that were more important at the moment to examine and the vet noted that after blood work came up since they examined fully - so I will trust the vet.

Given how well birds conceal illness, such a checkup is the only way to catch things early. It was kind of you to do this for them, and you'll be amply repaid with love for years to come.
