We did it!!!! Success!!!!! She's wearing her harness, not tugging on it so we are taking an outing to Petco so she can pick out her first toy!
Update coming soon!
Update:
We had a great outing! Venus road in the car on my shoulder, Husband drove. We are having a beautiful, sunny day too. Venus loves checking out the sights when we are in the car so she forgot about the harness. I got it on her today and tightened the closest to her body I have ever been able too so it was secure but not too tight. She pulls at it some or will put a foot through the bottom strap trying to work it off. Getting her out, in the car worked well.
The drive to Petco is 20 mins, but given traffic to cross the freeway, we went to Petsmart which is on our side of the freeway. We walked in the store and she was silent and quiet. We walked to the parakeets and finches, they were in sealed displays so I stopped there and let her check them out. Then we moved down aisles towards the parrot section, avoiding the main aisle and the pet adoption sections, high concentrations of people and animals, minimize stimuli. At the parrot toys I would pick up toys and show them to her. She kept staring at a parakeet disco ball so I picked it up and she responded to it. It's on a flimsy plastic hook so I got it and I'm removing the hook and hanging it on a chain I got from another toy.
Showed her the seed section, I had to get her a treat because she did sooooo good, so I got her a small seed stick. Her eyes lit up at seeing all the seed so I think that confirmed she is use to a seed diet.
People looked, one mother pointed Venus out to her son so I stopped so he could see her. I explained this was her first outing and we were harness training. They had no clue that such a device existed or what an Eclectus was so we talked to them and let them look. I loved that Venus was on my shoulder because I can touch the side of her body with my cheek and feel her and if she's shaking. She's very ok with this rather than my hands reaching up to her.
We stopped at Sonic to get drinks, she got the straw wrapper and by that time, she was cooing and happily played with the paper. About a mile from home the harness became her focus and she started squirming in it. When we got inside the house, I took it off her and she was very happy. I have her the seed stick and she was in heaven. Good trip, good success, she can enjoy the seed because it's going to be a while till she gets a seed treat like that again, lol. We are home and I have Velcroe Buddy with me, he was very neglected being left behind. He has been a stinker trying to harness train.
