Fireworks kill birds

This is heartbreaking.
I had no idea how our 4th of July and New Year's eve inadvertently celebrations kill so many birds in such a cruel way.

this is so sad.
I'm never buying fireworks ever again.
I'll stick to attending public fireworks displays ... even then those must kill birds too.
At least it's one event enjoyed by hundreds, or more, instead of each of those people setting off their own fireworks.

If it makes you feel any better about professional displays: I used to shoot professional fireworks. My father did it as a hobby and I grew up on the sets, and then as a young adult I did it to earn extra money. Even in the 80's one of the things we looked at when deciding on set location was making sure we weren't too close to where flocks roosted overnight. It was literally somebody's job to scope out the set locations at night to look for a variety of things, and bird flocks were one of those things. Also, we tend to not set up near trees anyway because of fire risk. I was involved in an accidental set fire, and it's scary as hell, even if you've done everything right (and that one was under control and then extinguished in very short order, but still terrifying.)

You know what? I kinda sorta figured in the back of my mind that fireworks had these dangers, but I never let myself think about it long enough to register it fully. Thank you.
