FINALLY Found A Cage for Hahns!

You built a birdy paradise. Your Hahn's will LOVE his home. :D Fantastic job, and I love all the toys, too. :)

I did laugh about the leftover screws. Each time I assemble a cage I have some of those, and end up scratching my head, wondering if I missed something somewhere. :(

Our original theory was they were for the wheels... but then we saw the wheels had screws attached so we were rather confused.

FWIW, often manufacturers of to-be-assembled products will include a couple of 'extra' screws, nuts, bolts and washers in case a customer loses some :).

That's what we thought! But they are completely different screws to the ones that hold the cage together. lol - still, no clue :p We suspect they were put in by accidence because the spares don't fit the cage.

[Re-type]

Draft concept for acrylic panels to cover outside of cage:
Cage+Panel+Draft.jpg

Theory is to protect the Hahns from dogs*/snakes/rats/mice.

I'm planning on putting acrylic on the back too, but just didn't draw it in. Talking with a local company to find out if it's possible to do it with the hinges on the door.

While I won't be letting my Hahn's sleep outside in the cage (I have a carrier/sleep cage for her), I'm still concerned about snakes during the day as well. (Budgies about 2 years ago had a near heart attack once when a snake was on their cage - had never heard the budgies EVER make a sound like THAT before... thankfully the wire was too small for the snake to squeeze through).

* Back story: Met a guy who had a one winged Ekkie. His Ekkie got attacked a week after being brought home by a dog; apparently the Ekkie had gotten his wing stuck through the bars/gaps in the cages, and panicked, and somewhere along the line, this attracted the attention of the dog who attacked the parrot through the bars of the cage. He was in a very serious condition and the first vet opted to have him euthanised, however the owner refused and took him to another vet who said that so long as he can survive the surgery, and recovery, he'd survive. They couldn't repair the wing, so they had it amputated. The owner is extremely dedicated to the needs of his parrot, and even takes him everywhere with him in a backpack style carrier. He's a very sweet and affectionate bird, it was amazing to meet him.

We could hear the bells of toys being moved around in the cage, went outside to investigate and found this little guy in the cage... lol

Moved him to a tub of water where he is happily chilling.

AWW and he thought he found the perfect froggy palace. I love frogs they are so cute, with those big eyes and fat little toes. I love the cage and the setup. Your new baby will never be bored. By the way isn,t that a tree frog rather than an aquatic frog?:)

Yeah, it's a little green tree frog. :) We have heaps of them around our yard. ... It's not uncommon to find one swimming in one of my outdoor fishtanks... >_>

I placed him in the tub as his skin was looking a little dry - wasn't sure how long he had been "stuck" in the cage for, so figured it'd be good to give him a little hydration.

You're picking up your Hahns today?

Just picked him up about an hour ago :)

He's still hiding in his delivery box though.... Can't convince him to go into the mini sleep cage.

I coaxed him out with a shreddable toy, and now he's exploring and chewing everything :D

Hey, very nice! He looks more confident now :)

His confidence perked right up around dinner time. We had him in his sleep cage with us outside when having dinner and he was climbing everywhere and making all kinds of vocalisations.

He's not confident around hands though, he'll nibble your finger through the bars, but get's skittish if he is overwhelmed.

Just popped him off for bed about an hour or so ago. Been a big day for him, so hopefully he can get a good night's rest. :)

I'll be working with him tomorrow, building his trust bit by bit.

Congrats Alisana :) I know you have been waiting a long time for this moment.

He looks like he is enjoying playing with his Toys in the Cage:)

I am sure he will settle in just fine after a few days.

Look forward to seeing lots of pics:)

Nice high feed bowls on your cage... that's always a good thing. Lots of cage manufacturers place the feed bay ports/brackets way too low IMO. It's like the cages were designed by people who know nothing about parrots. Great cage!

I say that every day, wonder if those who design cages own a bird, especially a macaw.

Congratulations, Alisana, nice corner cage for your Hahns, lot's of room to hang and climb. Looks like you will be well prepared for your Hahnsie arrival, we love our little Jack, he is just a very active tiny macaw acting like a big beaked macaw. ;)
