So after much looking around and searching, I found a cage for my (future) Hahn's Macaw.

It is 30" x 64" with a 5/8" bar spacing.

Description is at the bottom. I'll be getting the 717. (Black)

Finding a cage for a Hahns was rather annoying - anything bigger had too large bar spacing, and the cages that had the pull down hood and/or playtop were too small or too big bar spacing. *sigh* Personally, I would've liked something wider with a pull down hood/canopy, but no such luck. ><

Regardless, put the deposit down on the cage, went shopping online for some toys (supporting Parrot Rescue Centre Australia ;)), and now just waiting around til s/he hatches. I've been told "soon" by the breeder, but can't wait. :D She estimates late November/early December. :)

:green2:

Nice cage! I can understand the anticipation of waiting for your parrot. I was very anxious when I was waiting for my African Grey to get old enough to take home. I hope the time flies. Not too much longer it looks like.

Great cage! Your future hahns will love all the room!

Great cage... Did you get it from PRC?

Thanks ^^

And nah, I picked it up at PetHQ. Our local store runs animal adoptions every week, so I'm happy to buy items from them. It was about $530 - given how much it costs to ship in a cage of that size, I figured I'd buy locally. My big macaw though, I'll be shipping in the cage from UK.

I bought a heap of toys from PRC though :D Plenty of destructables. I also got some nobbly balls. Next on my buy list is the foraging toys and enrichment toys. I'm also going to grab a container of those little "shoe" foot toys from Kings Cages too. ^^

Ah. Sorry >< I disappeared for a while and forgot to update this.

Destructibles - Most from Parrot Rescue Centre, a only a handful from PetHQ.

Odd cage accessories

Last Picture: First attempt at making toys =\ Not many materials on hand, so not the best. >< I ordered more parts and accessories from My Parrot Shop, which should get here in a few days.

Nice high feed bowls on your cage... that's always a good thing. Lots of cage manufacturers place the feed bay ports/brackets way too low IMO. It's like the cages were designed by people who know nothing about parrots. Great cage!

Thanks :D I got the extra coop cups just in case stuff DOES drop into them. The ones I picked up are screw on so I can attach them anywhere on the cage.

I'm also going to get one of these as well: Quick Fill Water Bottle - 300ml - Accessories - My Parrot Shop - Parrot Toys and Parrot Supplies in Australia

Apparently it takes them a bit of practice to get used to the water bottle, but I'd rather have my Hahns trained on a bottle so that I don't have to worry about water when we travel.

And for travel, here's what I'm getting in as soon as I find out how much shipping is: Perch & Go - Accessories - My Parrot Shop - Parrot Toys and Parrot Supplies in Australia

Tossing up two different stores at the moment for where to get it from. MPS is $179, but I think shipping will be maybe $20-30ish? I saw it listed on Kings Cages for $99 or $119, depending on the sale, but working out how much shipping is. Parrot Rescue Centre sells the same one at $199 for $10 shipping cap - so waiting on quotes.

I'm also considering letting my Hahns sleep in my room in the travel cage [pending on how big it is] (my room is dark as, heavy curtains) and it's quiet, so better sleep. The two possible locations for the cage are Hallway (light doesn't go out until 12 midnight, and my sister plays music til 2am. Or outside, but then there's the risk of theft, cold (North Queensland, Australia - SHOULDN'T have issues with cold... but I'm paranoid), and we have sunrise at 5-6am. I would rather my macaw get 10 hours sleep at least, so if I can take it into my room at 10ish, and wake up at 8am-ish, then that can work.

Any input on this idea? Does anyone here have experience with a macaw in a sleep cage in their room?

I also picked up two of these: Mountain Breeze, Air Purifier by Russell Hobbs - Home

They were being cleared out at the local electronics retailer from $499 down to $199 - grabbed the replacement extended warranty too, so if they bugger up, then I get a replacement or equivalent model. :)

Haven't used it enough really to gauge how well it is, but was considering putting one in the bedroom (where I sleep) and another in the hall.

I had a similar cage, but larger, I didnt realize that i really didnt have any corners for it to fit in, due to windows, built in shelves etc... so I got rid of it and got one with a flat back. They are very spacious if you have the room and you got yours for a great price! Good luck!

@Alisana, that's a very nice carrier and an interesting looking water bottle, too. Both my B&G and my Military know how to use check-ball type water bottles, but I usually give them their water in bowls here at home.

And great on the air purifier as well. I have two Austin HEPA purifiers that I use here. They're by no means fancy but they seem to work.

I forgot to update this:

The carrier arrived a few days after ordering, set it all up with the waterbottle. Looks like it'll work well.

I've placed an AstroTurf square on the base of the carrier and I have four others spare of these. These are made from a plain plastic and are "pet safe" (I use quotation marks, because I'm always skeptical of anything that is pet safe by a manufacturer...) - the weave is rather tight, so it shouldn't be easily bitten by the Hahns. We cut out about 5 squares total to rotate between so that we can clean them each morning, and have plenty of time for it to try and to sanitize it with an avian cleaning product before it goes back in again.

The carrier will also be a travel cage, and a vet cage. I am leaning towards using it as a sleep cage and contemplating a 'snuggy' in there or not, or if it will be too hot.

Started to build the cage on Monday - ran into issues with the panels - but finished it today!

Progress photos below:

Partner ripped the instructions by accident

Aaand we came to a grinding halt when we found there was no way to get this bolt in. (The bars were welded too closely together, so called back to the pet shop)
