My vet said I should leave food in the cage all day. On the forum I've read differently. What's the consensus? I'd hate to think I was starting a bad habit.

I personally leave dry food out for my fids all the time. The fresh and cooked food I only offer for several hours, as I'm always worried about spoilage. :)

Loco has his pellets in his cage 24/7.. like Wendy said the fresh and cooked food is only left for 1-2 hours because I don't want it to go bad.

Same.

They have a dry food bowl and a wet food bowl.

Same. Pellets (and nutriberries popped in for treats) in one dish 24/7.
Fresh foods in separate dish not free access.

Although I should empty it sooner (maybe i'll ask the boyfriend to do it when he gets back from work) but I always have pellets except for the first hour (on a work day it's an hour, on a weekend/day off it's a few hours) which is when he gets his chop. which in an idle world, i'd be home and clean it out after 3 hours max but normaly he's eaten it by then then works his way through the pellets slowly.
