2 IRNs, two Budgies, two Tiels, three Canaries.
I recently acquired two IRN's and I'm feeding them Dr. Harvey's Colossal Cockatiel Food. Bought this for my Cockatiels and it looks about right for them, I think. But I'm getting ready to order feed for the IRN's and thought I'd run it past some of you here. So they are currently getting Best Natural Cockatiel Food - Colossal Cockatiel Food - Dr. Harvey's and they seem to like it, but just not sure I'm giving them the best. Of course additionally I am keeping Goldn?obles III | Goldenfeast Direct in front of them at all times as well as trying to get them interested in fruits and veggies with some success.
This pair are supposed to be about 1 1/2 years old and haven't been tamed. I suspect they were kept as a breeding pair hopeful.
Anyway, I'd be grateful for any and all input. Love my birds and want the best for them.Thanks........Tom:green2:

Okay, so I was just asking if I was feeding as good a diet to my IRN's as could be bought. I wanted to make sure that by feeding "cockatiel" mix that that would be okay. I suppose the non replies to my questions means I'm doing all right, so I will be reordering the mixes I have been using as listed in my opening remarks. Thanks for all your advice......Tom

I'm a new owner of one myself. All I can tell you is that the breeder that I bought mine from told me not to give it Cockatiel feed. He said a mix of seeds and pellets is best. More of a parrot feed mix I think

Thanks for the reply, I will look into why a breeder would say to stay away from Cockatiel mix. I don't know if you followed the link above to the mix I'm feeding, but it has like nine nuts, 9 veggies, 9 seeds, 7 fruits and one grain. I can't find a seed/feed mix specifically for IRN's, so I'm just going on what I had on hand. I do keep a good pellet in front of my birds 24/7.
Good luck with your new Indian Ringneck, they are such great birds. I hope in time I can tame mine some. I don't think they have ever been tamed, probably kept in an aviary. They are supposed to be about 1.5 y/o.
Again, thanks for the response....Tom

Tom,

It's possible for aviary birds to be tame enough to trust you enough to accept treats from your hands. All you need is a lot of time, even more patience and knowing what the bird's favorite food is.

One of my females is a aviary bird that occasionally will take treats from me, although that's always up to her own discretion and mood.
