At what age are eckies supposed to have all their feathers? I've noticed under both wings there is a spot in the same place that doesn't have feathers, but it looks like they are growing in. Also on both legs the feathers don't look full, and i noticed a spot on his abdomen near the anus that is bald.
He's just about 6 months and I'm hoping to not be a paranoid parrot parent!

Well Mango's just over a year. He started moulting before all his feathers were in. He keeps producing new ones though:).

He hasn't molted yet, and I haven't seen any feathers in his cage so he isn't plucking. I'm just always worried since he's a little baby haha.
And I think I'm a little paranoid about the skin and feather disease !
But it is good to know they can molt before all feathers are in, Thank you :)

Maybe if you took some pics? Hard to say how much of what your bird has going on is normal without actually seeing it.

Oliver is two and a half and he has some patches under his wings that never fully filled in...but the rest of him is completely filled in. My understanding is that this is normal. And as for your paranoia...I so get that!!! Raising and living with a parrot is a HUGE responsibility if you do it right...which you are....:)

Here is a pic of his underneath area. I normally cannot see the patch, only when his feather a moved to the side.

He wouldn't let me get one of under his wings.

Oliver's underside looks a bit different. I see his when he is in the shower with me...he'll lift each wing to get underneath wet exposing almost what looks like peach fuzz rather than a large patch of skin.

peeko has down fluff in his armpit area if he had arms haha. but I really do think its his age since he is still so young. I do thank you for your response about your 2.5 year old eckie! I know now I'm not going crazy :)

I think fluffy down in the "underarm" region beneath the wing is pretty much the norm. Both of my ekkies have that, too.

But I haven't noticed any bare patch in the vent area.
