Parrots
Cockatiel, parakeet and parrotlet
Kiwi, Sunny and Rio.
We bought our granddaughter a parrotlet.
We have one with our parakeet and cockatiel. They have had him for about 2 years now.
They give him free range of the house when they are home ,the rest of the time he’s in a cage. He interact wonderfully with everyone, helps them eat their dinner, walks around on the floor at time and takes naps with the dogs in their beds. Wonderful bird.
The problem is he’s started shredding/ plucking his feathers. Looks like hell
Now. Same playful bird but this issue started about 2 months ago. All input greatly appreciated

First thing is take him to an avian vet to rule out any health problems. Ask the vet for advice. This forum has threads that deal with plucking behavior. Look in the upper left corner at the three bars and pull down the menu. Click on Forums.
Scroll way down to the category Feather plucking feather destruction and mutilation. There are a lot of discussions that address these problems.
Good luck. I hope the little guy is okay.

Oh, I am so sorry... My precious 40-year-old monster developed some shredding/plucking after starting heart meds...

Will this help?

Certified Avian Vets
If none are near you...
Avian Veterinarians
In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.
If none are near you, maybe you could call and ask for a recommendation for somebody in your area.
And... sometimes, distant vets will offer brief thoughts or advice...
Or... sometimes I find a place to start just by Googling "avian veterinarian near ((your location))"
Or maybe a local breeder might help... again, maybe Google?

Another thread on vets from Terry57...
