Conure, Cinnamon Green Cheek "Shasta"
I purchased "Shasta" a week ago from PetCo in Redmond, OR..... s-he was labeled as a "Fancy" and priced as such $399 vs $339 for a "regular" Conure. S-he had been at the petco for quite a few months (I am sure because of the price).

I have read that there is no such thing as a "fancy" Conure..... just different mutations..... what do you think "shasta" is..... I am guessing a Cinnamon Green Cheek ?

Looks too dull to be a pineapple. Probably cinnamon but I can't tell from the photo, so he/she could be a pineapple.

"Fancy" in this case only means that the bird is not the normal color as found in the wild, but is one of the various color mutations.

I'd say it's a cinnamon green-cheeked conure. Imo, the head would likely be darker if it were a yellow-sided gcc and a pineapple gcc would have more color on the belly and chest. Of course it could also be a muddied variation of any of these color mutations.
The important thing is that no matter what color it is, it's a green-cheeked conure

Seconding Megapixel. It's a pineapple or cinnamon for sure, but I'd say cinnamon.

And yeah, those big chain pet stores are kind of silly the way they label everything "fancy" or leave off the real species of the bird, which is greencheek conure/greencheek parakeet. People end up thinking they have something called a "pineapple conure", which doesn't really exist.

The birds are described as "fancy green cheek conure" by the vendor that they come from. sometimes the shorthand on labels or reciepts leave information out, but if the store employee only said "fancy conure" that is just someone being lazy. Petco sells Pineapple and Cinnamon green cheeks, has separate item numbers for those types and sells them as such.

I think that these are likely color morph "mutts," maybe results of outbreeding to strengthen bloodlines and prevent heavy inbreeding. The fancy green cheeks at my store have had dark heads, but still the yellow sides, so they aren't likely a single strain of slightly more colorful standard birds.

Shasta is very cute! She reminds me of a pineapple conure.

Congratulations and may you have plenty of happy years together!

A real cute Cinnamon.
YS doesn't have a dilute head, 'pineapple' I believe has genetics of 2 mutations - YS and Cinnamon. At one time I was interested in getting a Turquoise Yellow Sided, another beautiful mutation which combines mutations to come up with a yet different color mutation. There's a Cinnamon turquoise.... Pineapple Turquoise too, which if I remember correctly is combo YS, turquoise, and cinnamon genetics. The unusual mutations are gorgeous!

* I have a friend who also lives in Bend. :)
