Oh, and regarding your PDD Alert thread... please be informed it is a common disease, and it is EVERYWHERE. More so I think at places such as this, because it attracts all sorts of "backyard or hobby breeders" who breed birds without even being aware of illnesses out there. Not saying all small time breeders are like this of course, but the people who sell at bird marts typically aren't aware, which is why disease is so common at places such as this.

Haha you sound like me. We have one coming up in October. But I am not sure it's worth the risk... And if I see any birds in deplorable condition, I don't know if I could contain myself. Probably get thrown out (SECURITY!!) :54: Although I hear they have some great deals... I wouldn't purchase a bird, but cages, toys etc...

Wendy, I went to several of them years ago, but I can't bring myself to anymore . It's so fun, and you see SO many species (not only parrots) that it's very interesting. Also tempting to buy tons of stuff. Although a good majority are ratty and jammed into small or crowded cages.

It was also at a fair once that I saw Quakers here in CA where they're illegal to sell or keep LOL!

I'm so tempted to go again, but I can't risk it. That's just me.

Sorry, had not been watching this posting.

The Great Lakes Avicultural Society's (GLAS) Fall Exotic Pet Bird Fair has an on-site Avian or Avian Qualified Vet during the first three hours of the Fair and longer depending on the Vet's schedule. Prior to the 10 am opening, all (each) bird is Vet checked by the on-site Vet. In addition, all Bird Vendors are on-site by invitation only.

The breeder that had brought about the July 2015 PDD Alert had asked to be a vendor for the first time, now three years ago, and was refused that year and every year since. Refusal based on not allowing GLAS staff required visitation of her facility and complaints regarding her facility from individuals who had visited on their own.

GLAS is very lucky in that the majority of the breeders attending are leaders in the birds that they breed, not back yard hobby breeders. And, they bring Show Quality birds.

Attending a Bird Fair 'should' require additional steps to assure the safety of your own parrots. You 'should' always change your clothing and shower before you make contact with your parrot.

I haven't decided wether or not I am attending. Doing estate sales, I will have to wait see how my schedule is in October. I can be busy at a moments notice, and Fall-Spring is usually my busiest time. Also I am taking my daughter to see Phamtom of the Opera in October too. So I may not even have time. Regarding Quakers, I only know of one breeder here in San Diego, up towards Fallbrook I think who breeds and sells them. I don't know how but she does.
