hello frnds.
cherry is almost 2 mnths old now and he is giving me lot of troubles as he is growing older day by day.
i am sorry but i am writing this thread out of utter frustation. and i need urgent advice and help pals.

first. he is not nt at all happy going in his cage. he screams a lot an doesnt settle till i bring him out. and his screams are very annoying and does that very often. wat to do?

2nd problm. he is sitting at one moment and other moment he flies off.
yestrday i was with him in the balcony and he flew and crossed the wall to the neighbours and luckily their dog was nt around.
and today is flew so high till the ceiling fan. bt again i just switched it off moments before.

its been very difficult for me now to control him. i have no control over his screams and his flying.
so what should i do??

I am owned by a male and female Alex pair. My first advice is that you have his wings clipped. He wont be able to fly away as easily, thus it will allow you more control over him. Buddy & Pandora have a tendancy to be flighty when not clipped. The noise level I can certainly sympathize with you over. We found that when Buddy gets loud we can distract him by talking to him. He will then start talking instead of piercing our ears with annoying sounds. Pandora our female doesnt speak at all, but also she doesnt do the loud ear piercing sounds that Buddy does. I imagine Cherry simply doesnt want to return to his cage and thus gets loud to be allowed out. If you place him into his cage and he gets loud, leave the room till he quietens down, then return and release him if you wish, or give him a treat. That teaches Cherry that to get what he wants, he must be quiet. Buddy can also be easily distracted from being loud with a new toy to destroy. Buddy can turn a $30 toy into toothpicks in a few hours.
I do understand your frustration, I hope my advice is helpful.

Tango can fly too, but is NEVER allowed out of his cage unless all windows and doors are shut. He also didn't like being in his cage as a baby bird, but he'll get used to it. If you like to have windows and doors open all the time it's best to clip the wings.

You may only need to clip a couple of the flight feathers on each wing, alexandrines are heavy birds. Don't clip them all! (this is dangerous as they land heavily and can injure themselves) Ideally he should still be able to fly a little bit, just not fly up high or too far.

Make sure you research how to do it properly yourself if you don't have an avian vet you can take him to...you need to be very careful not to clip too much and/or cut blood feathers.

Thnx everyone for there help.
His flying is nt much of a problem.
The main problem now is his screams. In or out of the cage he screams so much which is intolerable for me and for other members of the house. So i have got an ultimatum to fix his screams or he is going where he came from. Plz help me in this regard or i have to separte him from us.

Firstly in the morning he doesnt want to eat anythng. He only wants to fly and screams. Its vry difficult to keep him quit. And this noise is nt pleasant to ears.

2nd attack occus in the evening almost of same kind.
And if he hears a car reverse alarm. His screaming starts be midnight. When he was younger he used to run.may b he thnks its a predator.
Lastly he doesnt njoy playing wid any toy he used to do ealier nt evn new ones.

Could he be bored when he's in his cage? You could try putting some bird-safe toys or some bird-safe wood to chew on in there - that might keep busy.

so sorry to hear of your difficulties. cherry is still only very young, and at 2months please dobt clip him. he needs to fledge properly to build his muscles up. oxy was clipped to early and took quite awhile to build his muscles up. when he is out of his cage, keep the fans off and any unscreened windows closed. if you want to take him outside, get him harnessed trained. if you wish to clip him i urge you to wait anither 2 months atleast just so his muscles develop.
when i got bruno he was 18months old. my guess he had been clipped very young and kept clipped as he had next to no muscle development on his breast and when he took flught had no control even though his wings were pretty much grown back in. he is now an amazing flier. orince and bruno are fully flighted and im currently waiting for ixy's feathers to grow back in after i had him clipped kast time he escaped.
with the screaming, are you still hand feeding him?? i got oxy at 11weeks old, he was still weaning at that point. he was eating on his own but was still on a feed in the morning and in tge evening. at one pount he started refusing his mixture, so i thought he was done and after a couple of days i copped the morning screaming that you are talking about. my guess is that cherry is hungry, he is still a baby. if he wont take the formula, try an organic baby food, it worked with oxy. u can try it warm or cold, see which he prefers.
birds are like children, maybe he is bored with his toys. try some new ones, butdpnt stress about that to much, my guys go thru phases where they dont want to play with toys.
the cage issue...hmmmmm
what kind of cage is he in? could it be to big? to small? is it a new cage that he is not aquainted too? is he maybe spending more time in the cage then he used too? my advice is when you put him in his cage, give him a treat, what ever his favourite is and onky give him that treat for the cage so he associates his favourite treat with his cage and dont use his cage for time out purposes. i had an opposite issue then this when oxy was a baby. he would stay on his cage all day if you let him. i discovered he loved grapes, so i woukd only give him grapes when he was sitting with me or my partner.
its funny you mention the car alarms, my guys go crazy when the neighbour reverses his truck down the driveway.
cherry wont be screaming for no reason, you just need to find what he is trying to tell you. my guess is he is hungry from my experience.
good luck with him and i hope my advice helps, sirry its a bit long winded.
