Parrots
Eclectus Parrot: Nico (male)
Jenday Conure: Kiwi (female)
Sun Conure: Charlie (male)
The parrot I adopted a little over a month is the most alert pet/animal that I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with.

He will go to the top of his cage where he can see out the window to scream at cars driving by.

If I do something simple like brushing my hair he will scream, and expand his wings to be big & scary. You would think the hair brush is murdering me by his reaction.

If any other parrot makes a simple little screech he must respond immediately.

Who needs a ring alarm when you have a parrot? 😂😂😂 he alerts before my dogs even do when people walk by or come to our house

Parrots will be parrots

In South America the drug dealers would train their parrots to shout a warning when they would see the police.

I don’t know if that had anything to do with Colombia making it illegal to own amazon parrots or not.

They're fiendishly observant.
He sends up a bloody-murder alarm if he detects any "intruders" or environmental changes.
Despite my best efforts over the decades to expose him to variation, the Rb is stubborn, paranoid, indignant and aggressive.
Concerning my personal lifestyle, I became a total frump 40 years ago... no nail polish, no new hair, same glasses style, t-shirt wardrobe (no dramatic colors or designs)... lipstick? Are you kiddin' me?
What a wonderful pet.
If you are frustrated with your bird, Skype with me and the Rickeybird for five minutes and you'll be thrilled with your companion's obedience and affection!

It's really instinctive for parrots to be on the alert and constantly observant. In the wild, they have to keep track of the other members of their flock, watch for predators and keep an eye out for sources of food. Our companion parrots have the same instincts, but they often pick peculiar things to get upset about or be frightened by. My Quaker parrot Ralph used to give the Quaker alarm call if people running were shown on television, or if anyone was wearing orange clothing. My old YCA George was scared of corn on the cob and would scream until I removed it, and Scooter the CAG was afraid of just about everything,, but she would just back into a corner of her cage and growl.
