I think I may have been guilty of some off-topic posts or even hijacking threads a bit. Do people generally prefer that we not reply to threads by adding a story/photo/video of our own bird(s)? I'm a blabber-mouth, especially about the you-know-who, and I wouldn't want to run on and on and maybe be detracting or distracting from the original thread. Now if I'm conjuring up a non-issue, please feel free to tell me that, too!

Great question! My personal opinion on this subject is conflicted to say the very least. In an open forum, its about sharing, caring and learning. That's why we are all here. Sometimes a picture or video is what is needed to explain or to add context to a reply. I do enjoy seeing pics of how other members and their feathered friends relate to the topic in a thread.

Sometimes a thread is taken way off topic and the op is left :eek: or :28:. This forum is one of the friendliest, open minded and informative of any that I belong to.

Thanks, Terry...... that was another part of my question. When a new OP is looking for specifics, I personally try to keep it on topic and direct, absolutely agreed. If it's an old hand with a light-hearted thread, that's different.

Gail, that is such a thoughtful question. I am quoting Tsali below as I think it is a perfect answer. If we see a topic that has a specific question getting too far off track, we just try to steer it back on course:)

I also love that this forum is so friendly, open minded and informative, and it is truly because of the wonderful members we have here who are always willing to lend a hand, and share their knowledge.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Yes, yes, yes!

I'm guilty...I've done this . I apologize.

Personally, I think posting your own related stories, videos or photos to someone else's thread is fine... to a point. So long as it's a quick deviation and not a constant occurrence drawing away from the OP.

No need for apologies, I think we have all hijacked a thread at one time or another:)
As for myself, it doesn't bother me one bit for my threads to be hijacked:)

This has really helped me a lotttttttttttt!
Thank you all.

Gail you are fine, love the enthusiasm you bring LOL

Thanks, everybody.

A certain degree of thread "drift" is perfectly acceptable provided the overall spirit remains intact. A couple of stray posts help keep the topic alive. Of course there are threads that are by definition lighthearted that meander like lightning bolts!
