Hi, Frank Indiviglio here. Iā€™m a herpetologist, zoologist, and book author, recently retired from a career spent at several zoos, aquariums, and museums, including over20 years with the Bronx Zoo. In 2010, 33 teams of researchers set out across 21 countries to search for the hundreds of amphibian species that may have been driven to extinction in recent years. A ā€œ100 Most Wantedā€ and a ā€œ10 Tenā€ list was compiled, and the publicā€™s help was sought. Now, 4 years later, we have both discouraging and promising news, with some lost species ā€œresurrectedā€, several new ones described, and no sign at all of many.
Iā€™ve written about the global amphibian decline, spurred by an emerging disease (Chytrid fungus outbreak), habitat loss, and other factors, in several articles (please see Further Reading, below). The current search for survivors is also covered in the recently-published book In Search of Lost Frogs. Today Iā€™d like to summarize recent reports from the field. Most of the good and bad news centers on frogsā€¦the status of many salamanders, which are less well-studied and harder to find, remains unknown. Read the rest of this article here Endangered Species Notes: Missing Frogs Found, Others Feared Extinct

Another of your interesting articles. Thanks Frank. I LOVE frogs! I used to keep Mantellas and several others years ago. As much as I love frogs, I wouldn't attempt it nowdays. To maintain the correct habitat set up and keeping everything within the correct parameters would be more of a challenge than I'm willing to go through I'm afraid. I'll just admire them at the zoo or reptile store :)

Exciting to hear the discovery of new species! Monty Burns toad?! Lol, too funny!

Thanks!...The whimsical names are a great idea...little brown frogs do not get the attention generated by polar bears etc, so we have to try whatever may work! best, frank
