So I have been looking into creating some kind of emergency plan for the birds...incase of fire or somehting along those lines and I have to get them out of the house fast. Since the new bedroom is on the ground floor I was thinking maybe a dolly with travel cages strapped on. My bedroom is attached to the garage so I could store it in their all put together and drag it in my room and then right out the sliding glass doors to outside in an emergency.

I've been looking at a lot of the travel cages. I'm not sure about the ones with bars because the cages will be close to each other and most likely they would be able to reach thorugh and nip each other. They also have to have perches, toy hanger, and bowls. (Though a friend has said they can take my birds in an emergency situation until we had a new place and setup so the cage might not need all those things) I really don't want to spend an insane amount of money on travel cages.....and the ones I like are pretty expensive of course:rolleyes:

They also have to be able to stack on each other so the fabric ones won't hold up...plus if the birds are going to spend some time in them they can't chew through....and I really don't want super heavy cages.

So I would need 6 travel cages if I get Kelly. 1 pair of green cheeks, 1 for a sun conure, 1 for the a pair of girl cockatiels, 1 for the pair of boy cockatiels, 1 for a bare eyed cockatoo and 1 for a large yellow naped amazon. I feel like this is way harder then it should be and someone needs to make a reasonable solution....

So if anyone has any ideas...:D

I saw this on another site, and you may find it helpful:

How To Evacuate Parrots When You Only Have Seconds

Thanks! Pillow cases are actually how I used to get my snakes in and out fast:) Should have thought of those! So I might do both... have a setup of pillowcases in a fast emergency and a setup of travel cages if I have the time. It would also mean if I was blocked off from one of the options I would have the other. Of course I'm getting something to stick a desk/organizer thingy inbetween my stacker cages so I could store the pillowcases in that.

I would just knot the pillowcases. I got fast at that since I had 50 snakes back in the day and it would be faster and less likely to let a bird out.

You could consider attaching a divider of some kind to the side of the cage where it would adjoin (or just have a loose divider ready to slip in between?

I'd look into getting something custom made. There should be somebody local who does metalwork who could knock something suitable up - could make in mesh, with a solid side between each "cubicle".
