When Missouri gets a tornado, everyone runs for cover. It is tricky getting a parrot out of its cage. during a tornado warning. Sassy did not want to get on my finger and so I pulling her from the cage. It was hard on her but in a tornado warning, one only has so much time to grab things. Anyhow, my wife grabbed our Chiwawa name BINK, I grabbed Sassy, sons grabbed a matress and blanket to throw over us. All fit in a 8 x 6 bathroom, huddled on the floor. No tornado hit our town, but it was Doppler Radar indicated and therefore we took no chances. Hearing big golf ball size hail hit our roof, well I thought we was going to be hit. Sassy did bite me pretty hard as I pulled her out, but I could not see leaving her to fend for herself. She play bit my fingers at the start and as I pulled she gave a harder bite and squaked. But risking getting bitten is far better than waiting for a tornado to rip up the living room and killing Sassy. Sassy is a member of my family. I love her..

Glad you guys are all okay.In Ohio they aren't as frequent but I have a collapsible carrying cage behind the door in my bedroom so I can grab Pearl and go.You'll do whatever out takes to protect your family and pets:)

Haven't been though the tornado yet, so quick and little warning. Ive been though the forest fires , floods ,hurricanes, icing of the power lines, it's always something. I have " evacuation cages for all of my birds,(and i have a lot). Every body gets a turn in their Evac cage. Even when cleaning the breeder birds cages i put them in the evac cage. When things turn to do-do,having a familiar refuge will help relieve tons of stress. Maybe it's just me and my girl "Jake" but when i say "step up " and mean it !!!!she knows, no hesitation. I'm her "rock"

Wow, I'm glad everyone is ok!!! I'm not in tornado warning area, but we have the hurricanes. At least we have some warning.
Tornados are much worse.

Ya, we have a carrying cage too.. It is made out of thick vinyl and mesh plastic. It was strong and durable. It is meant to carry a small dog or cat, but works fine for Sassy also. We take her to the vet in the small carrying cage. She usually starts whistling and talking in it. It is safe for her, because it in padded real good.

The tornado warning was at 1:30 a.m.. So she was getting rest and interrupted, unaware of anything going on. She was scared that I chose a odd time to get her up.. I did not blame her for biting me. She is the boss usually if she wants up or staying in the cage, but this time it was slightly different and she had no choice.

Now play biting and serious biting are different to Sassy. I have her out playing with her. Grab her beak and she play bites me. Not drawing blood and nibbling at my fingers. I also wear long T Shirts and place her on my leg and pull the shirt over her and me. At times she has crawled up to the collar and came out. She likes that and I pull the collar over my head which excites her to walk inside my shirt. But the serious bite is more hard and when feathers ruffle up, tail fans out.. The hardest she has bitten me, was when I first got her and she got a hold of my pinky finger. Felt like a sludge hammer. But we all have felt a good bite..

I grew up in GA so I'm familiar with tornadoes!

I keep a pillow case next to Kazi's cage in case of emergencies. I'm not sure I'd be able to get him in his travel cage or carrier fast enough, but it just takes a split second to stuff a parrot in a pillow case. Even if he hates me a little bit afterwards :)

Better a live parrot who's mad at you for waking her up and forcing her out of her cage than a dead parrot! I also live in tornado country, and in an emergency like that you just do what you have to do. Tornado warnings are so scary! They make spring my least favorite season, for sure.
