Fiddling around with my new laptop and putting pictures on, we've got snow everywhere, low temps and I was looking through seed catalogs and after seeing this picture I'm longing for spring even more! lol Here's Elmer, a bull calf from last summer who was cooperating pretty well for a photo shoot.

And then he got tired and decided to take a nap in the sun after all that hard work of looking so adorable:D

Awww, Elmer is precious! He should be on the cover of a magazine:)

What a beautiful calf, and I love the flower patch he chose for a nap.

Oh how cute Elmer is! I love it when you share all of your animals with us. Where I'm at, I don't usually get to see a variety of animals unless it's at the county fair once a year, then of course the animals are a must see!

About how much does Elmer weigh at that age?

He was probably around 120# at the time the picture was taken, we sell all of our bull calves and occasionally save one back for the freezer. I'm in charge of taking care of the babies so they all end up named :) We had a cow calve 2 months early 1 time, he was born and couldn't stand by himself for a few weeks, no hair (just peach fuzz!) and all wrinkles. He required TONS of care and TLC but he made it:D. I named him Einstein and we let him run loose around the yard, I'd walk out the door and holler Einstein! and he'd come running. We kept him for a few months until he got big and strong and sold him to a nice family for 4-H. He would follow me everywhere just like a dog, I think I have pictures of him somewhere, not sure where though (2 computers later:rolleyes:)

Amazing story about Einstein! Wow Melissa, the calf 2 months premature lived because of your superb neonatal nursing skills! What is the gestation period for cows?

I cannot see the picture :(

So cute and small :p
We rarely get black and white cows here, they're usually brown with white patches or vice versa.

9 months, he was so tiny! I mean REALLY small, I could tuck him under my arm and cart him around on my hip, THAT tiny! I really got attached to Einstein, he'd had such a struggle the first few weeks of his life! It was touch and go for awhile but he was a little fighter. We haven't had another born that small, thank goodness! It's easy enough to get attached to them on a good day, but when they require that kind of care you form a deeper bond:)
