Hey all,

Off and on, I've searched online for answers about this, and still can't seem to find much.

Our eclectus boy came to us with an open-end, non-colored, metal band.

It has three letters, three numbers, but I can't seem to find and reading online. The letters are PEP. Anyone have any ideas?

Use the forum "search" (blue bar,top of page), loads of old post for help with bands. Too tried of typing the same info over and over. BTW assuming your in the states, i'd say that band is typical of bands used by bird brokers, not breeders. That bird come from a "pet store" ?

Since this a question frequently asked, why not make it a sticky?

My new amazon has a legband too, but won't let me touch it. At some point in the future I will be inquiring about it. Lol.

I know of breeders who prefer to leave babies in the nest longer than the wndow of opportunity to place a close leg band so they use "open" bands. I don't know what info you are looking for. You know his hatch year, right?

Very True, you only have a couple of days window to use close bands. I should have said most larger scale breeders don't band babies for the pet trade. It's usually the handrearers/brokers who buy babies that use an open band, they're the ones it matters too, when keeping up with babies. But yes Sodakat i agree small scale folks like us tend to band.

Tonners,, BTW your best chance to locate the breeder ,,is to contact band manufactures. Ask them if they made that band and if so,, give them your contact info. If the manufacture contacts the breeder(who bought that band) it's up to the breeder to contact you back. Most won't and many are no longer in business. The band manufacturer is not going to give you his client's info. Don't forget,, all these folks are doing you a favor. They owe you nothing. It's a long shot but has paid off for me, several times. Unless your worried about someone stealing your bird, post the numbers here and MAYBE someone can find out some thing. Draw it out with the right orientation and spacing.

Is it legal to import elkkies ??? Are they CITIES listed?? can't be a quarantine band, it would say USDA, I really don't know much about elkkies.

Many breeders here return the chicks to the nest after they've been rung - thankfully, as they're far too young to be taken from their parents at such a young age :)

Henpecked, I know my way around forums. I tried that. There were a TON of non-related subjects that popped up. My question is more specific- like with the PEP.

No, our ekkie did NOT come from a pet store. We got him from a lady who had him for two years. He is six years old. We don't know who the breeder was.

As my post said, I am inquiring about the PEP on the brand, and just wanted to know if anyone here recognized it.

Kinda sorry i responded, good luck.

Some pairs don't allow this. Breeders who want to band their birds yet leave the chicks longer, use open bands that are applied properly.

I wish bands contained more information or that there was a national registry everyone used. Lolly was bred in Florida at a large facility that is now out of business. Her band shows her hatch year but I am curious about the subspecies of her parents since she is obviously a cross. But I learned that this facility thought they were breeding pure subspecies so their records.would be of not help to me even if I could find them.
