i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
I am wondering something. I have a pair of gcc's that have five eggs. I have used a small flashlight to in essence "candle" the eggs. I do not lift them up just place the small light over the eggs. I had three that had the veining showing up on them. Today when I looked one of the three still had the veining however now there is also a ring of blood in the egg. Does this mean that the embryo died? It doesn't look like the normal blood ring kind of egg that is usually clear with the red ring. This one is veiny and then the ring. This is my first clutch and I am a nervous nelly!

it all sounds good :) they will change as they age and eventually you will just have a very dark egg with little veins you can see, good luck!

It is a good egg as Marcia pointed out already. IF you ever catch it while it is changing you'll see the egg yolk is being surrounded by the blood ring your describing. Then it starts to change with the baby in the middle and the blood veins forming. If you can, try misting the eggs with a sprayer on a daily basis, it really helps the eggs!!!!

I've never heard of this. What is the purpose of misting? I am trying to leave the mama and eggs alone as much as possible. However the whole process is simply amazing and I could watch the whole process all day!! She is such a good mama. She got startled and when she got up the eggs kind of rolled away. She then hurriedly rolled them back under herself. I'm in awe of nature!!

I don't think making the substrate wet is a good idea. Too great a chance for mold. From what I've observed, the hen knows if the eggs need more humidity and she will bathe in her water dish then sit on them if needed.

I'm limited in experience so will defer to others, but this is how it works at my place.

I dont mist my eggs cause it could make them too cold or let mold grow instead I mist the female and male that sit on the eggs. The point of misting is to create humidity which eggs need to grow and hatch strong.

I know what u mean Brian!...I am in total aww of mother nature as well
I leave my hens alone, they bathe when the eggs need some humidity, after all they know way more than we do!
congratulations, the best is yet to come, just wait and see!!! :)
