Eclectus behavior..strange or normal?

Well im glad to hear she is doing better!!!! They don't have very good grip. If you don't mind her flying, I probably won't clip her no more. My ekkies don't fly everywhere, either to us or in their house to eat.

I thought my Eclectus had neurological damage for the first two-three months (7 weeks old to 15-20 weeks old) or else that she'd been secretly drinking vodka and was permanently drunk LOL! In retrospect, I think that he constant state of imbalance and lack of gripping ability was just that she was a baby --she looks just an adult but she was developmentally like a 10-month old human and human babies don't walk until they're 18 months or so. She waddled around on the floor like a goose. She's much steadier now. She TERRIBLY picky about food when I got here. She overcame this pickiness when I didn't feed her at all for 2-3 days and then only gave her her then least-favorite food (the Robertson's pellets) which she gobbled up in no time after developing an appetite. Now, I tend to fee her as much variety every day as I can. She gets a bowl of organic Robertson's young Eclectus pellets that's in her cage all the time. Aside from that, every day I try to put a millet spray and/or some fresh organic kale on the millet spray holder, 1/2" to 3/4" thick slices of cold, cooked sweet potato, parsnip, & yam, one whole mandarin orange and/or some pitted cherries or other fruit on a kebab-like skewer, and in an iron "food cage" also hanging from the top of her cage, I put in half a dozen sweet mini bell peppers and a poblano chili.

Hi there, I'm new to Ekkies too, we got Venus around 1/21/15, she was on a seed diet, and does a really strange head move we call broken neck now. She bends her head all the way back, upside down and looks around. Strange, but unique to her and she is fine per the vet. I have noticed since we got her that when she is stressed we hear her breathing, hard and fast. She also jumps at new objects that appear in her line of site, so I make a habit of having her sit with me at least twice a day. If she's not eating, I put food in a cup with a spoon for her. She knows a cup and spoon has food so that's how I get her to eat the good stuff.

Even after about three months with her, she's bonded with me but does get nervous. I've harness trained her but she gets nervous and breaths hard when I take her out of the house. She will call me when she wants attention, and she looks forward to our together time. Give things time with her, they will improve.

I thought the terms "Eclectus behavior" and "strange" were synonymous... :D

[This is the point where my Foster Bird Ruby would probably chime in with her "air horn noise."]

From what I've read supplements should not be given to Eclectus that's why I said no.

Agreed.

Though you can also put a calcium perch in the cage as well. Mine had one in hers, and chewed on it regularly without ill effect.

Wheezing can also be a sign of vitamin A deficiency.

The balance could be off if the feathers are out of whack.

What I worry about with a bird falling are neurological problems, and/or seizure disorders... and Eckies do get both. If it the balance issues don't improve, I'd want labs done on her...

I getting an Eckie girl in the near future ( my avatar pic). So I've being reading; The Land Of Vos, a site all about Eclectus, you might find it helpful with your little girl too. Wishing you the best.
