I hope Im posting this in the right place..

Does anyone know if e-cigs are harmful for birds? I recently got one to quit smoking; I smoke it in the house, though typically not near Max (sometimes he wanders over while Im smoking it.) And of course Im not stupid with it and smoke near his cage or blow it on him or anything, I try to keep it away from him.

I havent found much info on it myself. Does anyone else know about any effects of vapor cigarettes and parrots?

The fact that you are asking the question shows that you are concerned about the possible dangers.....

I don't know of any studies that have been done on electric cigs, but until I found out, I think I would take my imitation puff outside, away from my feathered friend.....

if it is an e cig made with pure nicotine inside (like most) yes it is harmful and I wouldnt smoke it in the house at all!! The vapors will disperse in the air and stay there harming your bird for a while after you have smoked it even if you are in a different room if you keep the doors open or have circulating air systems it will travel to the room your bird is in and harm him/her be careful their respiratory systems are super delicate!

You shouldn't risk it, use your electronic cigarette outside and take the same precausions of a normal cigarette.

Good luck taking the next step in quitting, my sister quit 2 years ago and she feels so great. She used to constantly get strep throat because her lungs were weakened. Since quitting she hasn't gotten strep once :D

Yeah, Ive been considering doing that. I think Ive been putting it off due to convenience; its just so nice not having to go out into the cold, rain, or blistering heat to smoke (though before quitting tobacco cigarettes I always went outside to smoke, not only due to my pets and daughter, but also because I hate the stik of cigarette smoke in the house/on furniture clothes etc.)

For the couple days Ive had it none of my animals seem to mind. Though when I vape inside I either have a window open or a fan (while Max is safe in his cage of course) or do it in a closed off section of the house.

I think Ill be moving my vaping elsewhere though, at least until theres some definitive research OK'ing it for birds/pets in general.

Thanks for the advice.

The vapour that comes from an e cigarette has no odour at all! All that comes out of them is water vapour!! They contain, NO tar, NO carbon monoxide, No amonia and NO ash!

They are totally harmless and can be used in all places that people are not allowed to smoke.

A friend of mine has one.

Here is a link to them....

actually not all e cigs are just water some are yes but some like my grandmothers is pure nicotine which IS harmful to birds so it depends on what one you have.

Nearly all of them contain nicotine which is what gives way to the nicotine craving for smokers, but what comes out is only water Vapour, !!! This is why they are legal in non smoking places and around Children!!
