so i'm getting Parker a new huge cage , but the only place in the house it will fit is next to the back door, where we come and go....other than that there are no drafts...i'm talking 69" long 28 " wide and 74" tall cage....do you think he will be okay

IMO i think location is more important than size. Does he really spend that much time in it? If it were me,,, i get the biggest cage i could fit in the best location. I think your bird would rather have more interaction even if it meant smaller sleeping quarters, Just my .02 worth

PS i don't know your situation. I mean no offense . It's just what came to mind when i read your post. I don't think a draft caused by opening /closing the door would be an issue. BUT a bad draft from a poorly sealed door during the winter could be.

I'll agree with HP on the door seal and if there ends up being a draft problem, you might be able to affix a plywood barrier/wind stop in the fall.....

Have you seen one of these cages, or just pics? The reason I ask is that I think it's a poorly designed cage.....I've got one on our breezeway & use it for an outdoor cage.....It was given to me by someone who had bought it for their B&G, but decided the bird needed more room...which it did.....

If I had had to pay for the cage, it would have still been taking up space in their garage...they tried for 2 years to sell it & people didn't want it after they saw it.....if the bars were closer together, it might make a nice sugar glider cage, but then, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....

HP... I try to give him at least 2-3 hours of out of cage time a day...lots of times it's even more than that...however there are days that he only gets 30 mins to an hour as well they are few and far between but it does happen I just want to get him the biggest possible cage I can because he lives there...to me it would be like keeping a dog in a crate all day and only letting them out for a few hours...but he stays in the kitchen right now and the only suitable place for a cage that big is by the door...i'll get a pic and post it for you so you can see what I am talking about...also i am giving his old cage to a friend for there YN zon who is in need of a bigger cage

i would like to get him the biggest cage i can this one seemed to make sense to me but I am always open to suggestions...as it will be about 2 more months till I have enough money...my budget is around $1000 including shipping...the only concern I have is being able to fit it through the door ...I like to pressure wash at least 1 every 2 weeks as well as regular daily cleaning...I was looking at a double macaw cage 1" spacing as well ....i have seen a similar one different maker but it was the smaller version

this would be the wall his new cage would be on...you can see his current cage to the right

Your not moving it far at all. I see now why you need a new cage! What Boy amazon would like being in a purple cage? That's a girl cage. LOL To sure sure your getting a more "manly" color.

yeah i'm gonna go with black...I got this one for 60 bucks and the only issue it has is a broken hinge on the breeder box door
so you don't think the door will be an issue
I haven't felt any drafts

Your patio/back door is a 36" wide door isn't it.....you shouldn't have a problem getting it in & out of the door.....

If the draft is an issue, i'm sure it can be easily fixed.

Heather, have a look at THIS cage:
AE Cage Large Dome Top 40 x 30 Powder Coated - DOME TOP CAGES by Bird Paradise

I have my Sam in that cage. This cage came with Ripley, my Green Wing, but he's now in an even bigger one. :)

Sam literally can get lost in this cage, that's how spacious it is for him. But he utilizes every square inch of it, and I have no regrets of putting him in such a big mansion.

You could sign up to their email list, and they will send you periodic emails of coupons and/or codes of up to 30% off. 2 weeks ago I got Ripleys cage from them with a 30% coupon code, and the shipping was free. :) I believe their next "big" sale will be during the 4th of July Holiday.

weco...the back door is only 27" very strange...our front door is 36"
Wendy...i think I would like to go even bigger than that...his cage right now is 33x21x37 plus the shelf and legs...I just can't see spending that much on something that isn't quite a bit bigger
