Sprite the cinnamon green cheek conure.
I don't know if any of you know, but Sprite is flighted! He was clipped when we got him and I think we clipped him twice after that, but he's been flighted for probably about 4 months now. I definitely prefers this; this way he can follow me around and even follow me up and downstairs. I'd just like to give you a HUGE warning about your FLIGHTED BIRDS!!!
Sprite broke his tibiotarsus (tibia) by flying into my mom's room while she was closing the door. It took him about 2 months and LOTSSSS of vet bills (500+) and thank god he's all better now but that was SCARY and he did NOT like getting that cast changed. So just a warning!

Sorry your little friend had to go through that, but when we have flighted birds in the house, everybody needs to know when they're out & must watch out for things like this.....he was lucky it was only his wing, I know of a sennie that had to be put down because she got a broken back when a heavy dining room glass door was slammed on her.....

Thanks for the warning.....

I have heard TOO many stories about incidents like these, whenever I take my budgies out I alert the whole household

I have expirences and heard to much of this kind of accident, that's why sadly I clip my birds as I just can't risk that kind of Injury to happen. I would love to take part in free flight, but it is to risky to me..

Hmmmm, kind of hard to miss your guys waddling around, isn't it JT ? ? ?

oh thats awful! glad hes ok! when I have my birds out I let the whole family know (all 8 people) and check all the dangerous things in the house to make sure its pretty safe its a huge job having flighted birds in a large house with so many people!

Welcome I meant along the lines of them flying into doors or out of doors. My bird room has two doors to the outside and it would be extremely unsafe for me to allow them to be free flighted. And I also quoted that it was other people's expirences to. I've know elderly women or men who have a hard time walking around and they step on them by accident. I mean really accidents happens. And of course I notice if my birds are waddling around I'm around them all day Long so thank you. My birds always go to the vet if needed if you haven't seen my pictures I see a bunch of happy birds in there that were given up and now have a chance.

I have Codie clipped and he certainly does not spend all day waddling on the floor! I have already lost one Bird through flying into a Window and breaking its neck, and do not EVER want to experience that again!

I clip all my birds right after there first flight... (except for lucy my recent rescue her feathers are all messed up at the moment)I do it to avoid accidents...less chance of them hurting each other or hurting themselves...
