The other night, we had friends over for dinner. They are vegetarians, so, we served various vegetable dishes & salads. One thing was squash. After baking the squash, I put the cleaned seeds in the hot, turned off oven to bake. My friends are also bird lovers and asked about the seeds. I always save the seeds of any fruit & veg that we eat for the birds. For seeds from squash or pumpkin, I put them in the oven to dry for a few minutes after baking the squash. Turn oven off, it's hot enough. For seeds from melons & grapes, (dessert that night), I just let them air dry. Apple seeds are given with the apple slices. Some folks think apple seeds can be poisonous because cyanide is made from them. But, in small quantities, apple seeds are okay. My fids also get any other seeds like, sesame, flax, chia, etc. Not to forget, the sprouts! Of course, we all know that these seeds are taken before cooking and/or eating. And NOT from fruit that's been in our mouths. I can see someone innocently spitting out watermelon seeds for their birds. OMG!
