Skittles is finally coming out of his cage. Yea!!!!!

In the morning, when I first get up, and most of the evening, he roams around the outside of his cage. He particularly likes standing on his open door.

When it is time to go back in I usually tell him "In the house." Sometimes it even works, LOL.

If he is ... reluctant, I tell him "Don't make me get the shirt.!"

Sometimes, all I have to do is pick up this old T-shirt off of the bar stool near his cage. Other times I have to gently, follow him around with it. Either way the "shirt" convinces him to seek refuge in his cage.

There is no threatening, no chasing or grabbing, just allowing the shirt to hang loosely, while I bring it up behind him is all it takes. Last night my wife tried it and he went straight into the cage.

The "shirt" must be one scary dude! :p

I will try and have my wife video the "nite-nite" routine and post it.

He's probably been "toweled" a time or two.

My son is the actual "owner" of Skittles. Unfortunately for him, fortunately for me, his job keeps him on the road.

When we moved, last week, I had to call my son to get Skittles out of the cage. He said he had to "towel" him; however, what he did wat take an old sweatshirt and followed behind him and Skittles came right out. He never touched him with the shirt.

My understanding of twelling is much more of a "contact" sport and can be fairlt traumatic to the bird.

Me, I'm trying to convince Skittles that it's all his idea!

Towels, sheets, T-shirts can all be left for a bird to investigate, inspect, lick, beak, beat-up at their leisure & normally this will lessen any apprehension the bird might have towards an object.....also, using the item in a game will often allay a bird's fears.....

JerseyWendy,

We video taped the nightly "Get-the-shirt" event. Unfortunately, Skittles wasn't the only one that needed the shirt, LOL! I will try shooting it again tonight WEARING A SHIRT and see if the end result is a little more presentable :54:.

WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA!!!!!!

Skittles doesn't get upset when she sees the shirt? Norman freaks out! I 've had to use it to control him before, guess it's my fault. If you keeps using "in the house" it will work more often. I didn't realize that I used the same phrase every night until a friend was babysitting Norman and called me frantic. She couldn't get him back in the cage. I told her to try "Bed Time Norman" and he went straight in. I had trained my bird for years and even I didn't know it!:20:

I've always used "in the house" whenever I wanted him back in the cage. I tell him "nite-nite" before I turn off the lights to give him some time to get into position.

Last night, I didn't verbally threaten to get the shirt, I told him "in the house", when he hesitated I picked up the shirt from the kitchen counter. He started to head to the front of the cage and then stopped and watched the shirt. Then I moved it closer to the cage and he went right inside. I never got close to him with it.

I'm not sure he fears it. When I use it he doesn't get agitated or bite at it, he just doesn't like it. I think it also takes the blame for making him go into the cage, because I can put it down and reach in to pet him and he steps right up to me.

We discovered the "shirt" by accident, but it works.

No video yet....with clothes on???? LOL :D

Sorry, I spent the early evening fixing the lwn mower, then cuting the lawn. By the time I got done it was time to retire and I forgot (Plus, with the earlier Skittles scare, described elsewhere, I didn't want to mess with him too much.)

I've always said, if you can't laugh at your own expense, don't laugh at anyone else's expense.

So ... BUST AWAY! :09:
