The vet my wife likes wanted $600 to clean the teeth of a 15 year old cat. I took him to a vet known for low price, and it was about $80. I have to lay down the law every time she takes the cats in there, as they are always saying this or that test is needed - for $$hundreds.

Sounds like Banfield. Notorious for that crap.

Along this line, I went to an ENT for a persistent dry cough last Wed. I have never smoked, have no other symptoms, and at low risk for HPV :). ENT looked down my throat with a borescope and decided it's mild acid reflux, and prescribed Prilosec.

I read the advisory sheet, and it has a long list of side effects, which make it far worse than the cough, so I'm not taking it; choosing to alter my eating instead, like no meal within 3 hours of bedtime. Do pet meds come with advisory sheets?

EVERY drug has side effects, most are intentionally addictive, and some may actually help with the advertised malady...

Urgh. I had something like this happen to me. I had been sick and was throwing up so I was prescribed medication. I had an allergic reaction to it, initially felt weird, mouth was dry, was thirsty - by the time I got to the emergency room, I was shaking badly and had gone into Anaphylactic Shock and when my breathing got too difficult, I was in a state of panic. (Not a fun feeling... )

My friend who had driven me was a pharmacy student - and before I was unable to talk (tongue swelled - which happened towards the end of the drive) she asked me what they had given me - she herself was surprised and made a comment saying "That product shouldn't even be on the shelf... So many people have allergic reactions to it."

Now when I suffer nausea I just deal with it... Not worth the hassle =\
