My Elphie has developed a sore spot where her wing attaches to her body. I just noticed it yesterday but she keeps picking at it and I think it looks worse. She has flown a couple of times lately and the landings were less than graceful, I thought she might have scratched herself on something. It is very cold and snowy here in Indiana and I don't wish to take her out if it's not absolutely necessary but I wouldn't want her to get an infection or something.

Someone with more experience than me have any ideas, she has only been with us a few months.

I don't have that experience. I live in The Netherlands and here we can call a bied specialized pet if we have doubts about something. They give you great advice. I don't know of that can be an option for you.
I don't think it sounds right what your Senegal has. So maybe a vet isn't a bad idea. But maybe there is someone that recognizes this and can help you immediately.

I would say to take her to the vet. Better safe than sorry especially since it is affecting her flight and it is bothering her. If she keeps picking then whatever it is then it most likely will not heal and you will have an infection. Let us know how it goes.

Yes!! please take your bird to vet immediately and have tested for giardia. It is a nasty parasite and is difficult to get rid of and the sooner you get it diagnosed and treated the better your chances of getting rid of it are.

You need to be taking your bird to the vet rather than asking the question and awaiting a response. If in doubt, check it out. Birds don't show illness. If you are noticing a definite change, then it could be too late, so no time to waste.

Agreed - any time there is any sort of injury visible on a bird, it needs to see a vet asap.
I suggest you put a warmed blanket or something similar under her cage for the trip to keep her warm.

Let us know how it goes.

I had to take my bird to the vet in extremely cold weather also. I preheated the car, and while that was going on, I put a thick blanket in the drier set on high. After about 10 mins, I put him in the carrier, wrapped it in the hot blanket, and ran out to the car, which was warm. He never felt the cold :) it can be done. Good luck and I hope it's nothing serious.
