Does baby colors actually have anything to do with adult colors??

So I've actually been kinda curious. When I was visiting Sammy, I saw his other two siblings had a different level of yellow, green, and orange. His other two siblings had more yellow and orange compared to him, where he only had a small stripe of yellow on his head. Now obviously this didn't matter to me (I got him anyways!) Because I just attached to him and he attached to me. The owner of the shop told me this really makes no difference to adult coloring, which makes sense. But I keep getting more confused how some Sun's first feathers are almost entirely adult coloring and yet Sammy was a green bean!

So is this True? Why do suns have different levels of color as chicks? Thanks!

First of all, LOVE the pics how cute!!

I'm a big fan of suns and see babies with a range od different coloring, from mostly all green on the wings (and even some on the head, with only a small amount of yellow) to lots of yellow on the wings without much green at all. It really just sounds like chance of how green/yellow/orange the babies will be, but seeing the parents should be a good indicator. Some mature suns don't have much orange, while some have lots of orange around their eyes and bodies. Some babies will simply have more yellow than others because of genetics, possibly their parents were born that way, too, but in the end, as adults they will all mature to have mostly yellow wings without much green. For some babies it can take a year or two for them to really get their bright yellow adult coloring, while others will have it right away.

I don't think how they look as babies will indicate how they will look as adults for the most part. Baby Chloe didnt have a lot of orange as baby but when she got older she started to look like her dad which has a more orange. My mated pair were mostly all yellow on their backs as babies but Chloe was mostly green back there. As Chloe hit her 1 year mark her back looks like theirs. As Itzjbean stated, I believe the factor is what their parents looks like.

I hope your two that bred were not clutch mates (photo with them as babies makes them seem as though they're from the same clutch)...

When I asked the breeder, he said they were not. Their baby is 100% healthy according to their semi-yearly check up. Either way I do not want anymore babies! lol. Three is two too many, she did not lay any eggs this year...

LOL I love Sammy to death, but I am so happy with just one. I can teach him to minimize his screaming, and so far he very very rarely screams during the day. But I KNOW that with two suns they would just get each other going LOL

They aren't too loud. Only scream when I enter and leave the room. They will do a test call every now and then if they here me creeping upstairs but if I am at work, pretty quiet. Not a peep Monday through Wednesday.. Thursday and Friday they know the weekend is coming so they will call out for me when i am at work every 3 hours for about 2 mins. They are well behaved at the bird store... so I'm told, but in my mind they are bratty little children.
