I've got a pearl pied baby right now that im still handfeeding. I am pretty sure it's a girl. They're harder to visually sex because of their coloration. Do you know how old they are. Sit with them awhile and listen, only boys sing!

As many babies I've raised in the past I can usually sex them pretty good just by being around them even when they're young. Its really not complicated once your used to it. But if your unsure, only males sing, easiest way to sex them!!!

there still at the petshop but i put a deposit to buy them so when i pay it off i will take them i go every once in a while and yes one of them is always sings one of them doesnt and the same one looks at the mirror the other doesnt im sure he is male and one is female but i want to know if he has gone thru his first moult he said they are still young but they will be old enough by the beggining of spring right now its the beggining of winter

One more thing, are they siblings? If your wanting them as pairs....

So only male cockatiels sing? I also have a cockatiel (dont know the gender) and it sings. The pet store I got it off said it was female, but they said it was a guess. so yea xD

Yes only males sing! What color is your bird ash?

You can still sex pieds pretty easily by looking under their wings. You would see dots in a row from primary feather connecting all the way to the secondary feather to the body.

If the dots goes from primary all the way to secondary feather to the body. It would be a female! If none, half way, partial or most of the way but doesn't reach the body its a boy.

By the way if its yellow feather you can still see light yellow dot! Just look at it with white light behind the feathers you'll see.

both of them have lines under and over the tail like the pic i posted the second pic with the cockatiel on the bed no they are not siblings he told me they are a future and hopefully a breeding pair i dont understand they both have lines under and over and i thought females only have lines is it possible they didnt moult yet and if they didnt does that mean they wont be old enough to breedwhen spring comes????????????????????

They can start breeding at 9 months old but prefer to be at least one years old before attempting!!! Are you just looking to be able to breed them? And why? I'm raising mine again not because I wanted to, I did not get mine in hopes of raising babies out of them. It just happened!!!! It's been many years since I raised any chicks. There can be complications you must learn about before attempting!!!

no he told me there a future breeding pair the owner of the petshop told me to breed them once spring starts because he gave me a huge discount and we made a deal that if they had babies we would split them or give them all to him and im afraid for there health so i was just wodering

As long as they're passed the one year mark, breeding process can start! Plus do read more about raising Cockatiel babies!!!

i know everything about breeding i breeded parakeets and lovebirds and much others but i will tell u what im planning and tell me if this is a good idea first there is this cage which is split in half cant get a pic but i have 2 pairs of cockatiels currently and im buying 2 more cockatiels so ill put each pair on each side and ill put a nestbox on each side and i will breed them so if the new cockatiels dont know how t breed they will learn from my other cockatiels

Another thing is some pairs are incompatible! I had a Cinnamon Pearl Whiteface female once that NO males liked. She wanted to have babies so badly but no boys likes her until I finally found one that does like her, it took MANY tries. Sometimes you can not expect them to breed together just because you think they should. I usually try to select my breeding pairs together by themselves, if it doesn't work I place them with other birds until they find a suited partner. I have one self absorbed pied male right now, he's absolutely stunning to look at as he have very long crown and beautiful butterscotch coloring. He only have very few patches of grey on either side of his wings and mainly butterscotch. He is NOT into breeding period! He's more into himself as he sings to himself and plays by himself. He'll get along with a female, but will not mate with them. Which it don't bother me one bit! I prefer them to stop having babies right now!!! LoL
