Does anyone know anything about disability?

When you have time, let us know how it went with his arm. I sure hope he is feeling better soon. Just looking at it hurts.

And if there's anything I can do in helping with getting disability, just let me know. I will call my uncle this weekend and ask what he had to do for SSDI. He got it because he's bipolar though and IIRC his psychiatrist helped a lot with getting it for him. Once I know how he went about it, I will PM you. And I'll find out about the Medicare/Medicaid thing and how long he had to wait to get that, too, once he was on disability. He complains about his co pays, but they are much lower than mine are. He makes more money than I do, but that is because he made more money as a truck driver than I did as a teacher. I know he doesn't pay child support anymore, SSDI pays it for him if that is a concern for Nick. He also has to pay state income tax, but not federal. I have to pay federal but not state. Let me know what other questions you have and I will ask him. You can tell we've done some comparing:)

Just a point of correction. Someone wrote than some attorneys might ask for 1/3 your SSDI for up ot a decade to pay them. In fact, the Soc. Sec. Admin. has a strict and absoulte limit on how much an attorney may collect as a fee for handling a case. It is the same in all 50 states. Since it usually takes a long time to be approved, could be one to two years since the 2008 economic deprssion, SSDI pays retroactively and recipients usually get a lump sum large amount when approved, which is often enough for payment to be made in full to the attorney and still keep for yourself. Using easy numbers, if u are entitled to 1000 a month and get approved after 17 months, then you'd get 17K, of which I think about 6K max goes to the attorney.
