I've been thinking and I may get some button quail (also known as king quail and Chinese painted quail).

I've read that they need 26% protien gamebird crumble? non medicated.

I live in the UK and I honestly don't know where to find it. I would only be getting 2 or 3 (some people have said pairs and others have said have a trio) so a 20kg bag wouldnt be ideal as they are the size of a budgie and it would probably go off before ive got through the bag.

Any other information on button quail from people who have had experience with them would be great.

thanks again :)

I have a friend in Canada who had 4 for a while. I can't help you with diet, I don't know what she fed them. I do know she got 4 to keep in two pairs, but there was a bit of bullying going on, and she ended up with a trio and a single.
And they make WEIRD noises, lol. Her single guy Comet made Darth Vader breathing noises late at night, it would really freak her out. :p
I remember being surpised at their rather short lifespan? I'm used to thinking of birds in the long term...

PS -I'm dying of jealousy that you have two Rosella's!! <3

Thanks for the reply! didn't see this until now.

I just think the are adorable but probably a bad idea with lovebirds. I've seen japanese quail in aviaries with Lovebirds but I'm not sure I actually want to take the risk. I love the noise they make haha.

Aw my Rosella's are sweet, Rainbow is tame but doesn't like being touched and Tooki is coming round, he accepts food from me. Well he snatches food from me :) silly birds! They are very pretty.

Your lovies are very pretty. I like the seagreen Periwinkle and the youngest? Honeydew looks very cute!

I give mine away as they stink bad!!!! Even their food smells bad....Basically chicken feed....They came with the aviary I bought from the couple, but I cleaned out my aviary from their smell and then I give them away....

really? I was only thinking about getting 2 or 3 and they are really small. I didn't think they could smell that bad. :S
