I think Kermit (my Kermit, lol... green bird, common name I know) didn't get the whole flip on her back thing at first either. I started by just offering my hand as a vertical surface because she liked to snuggle up to it, and then just gently proceeded to wrapping my hand around her back with her perched on my thumb. She was also used to me holding her gently by the chest area from when I take her up to bed (I ascend a flight of stairs every night for her sleep area and wanted her to feel secure/not fly off while I was going up stairs). Long story short, she was very used to hands from day one and just made the logical leap to be on her back. She doesn't always like to be on her back, though, and we have certain hours that she is a shoulder ornament. Either way, she's a cute kid.
She was habituated very young, but I suspect your Kermit could still take to more touching if you specifically rewarded it. Best of luck !
