Do your birds mimic nose breathing, too?

Avery has recently been talking more and more, saying "hello", "step up", "come on step up", and "pretty bird". It's adorable! I've never put emphasis on her talking or expected her to, as her chattering noises are absolutely wonderful enough as is. But one thing that has me a bit bothered are these random nose puffing sounds she makes when I give her kisses on her neck. She's seen the vet and I've shown the vet when she does through video and at the actual office, and after doing a check up my avian vet feels that's she's perfectly fine. Especially because she never does this unless I'm kissing her.

I do recall reading on the forum awhile ago about a sun conure that would sneeze for attention, so I'm hoping it is just a mimic sound or attempt at making some kissing noise (like my vet has said... and I do trust her opinion, she's the best avian vet available in a city of nearly 300,000 people). But I am just curious, have your birds ever mimicked a breathing sound before?

The closest that any of my birds come to a breathing sound is Rosco snorting at me. He does not like me messing with Tootsie so he gets all booffy headed and snorts several times while acting the tough guy. I call his bluff and wave my hand at him and he runs to the back edge of the cage while I go back to scritching Tootsie. The noise he makes is almost like a high pitched sneeze.

can you post video? our sun seems to sneeze alot.

hahaha! That's hilarious! Our birds have such silly attitudes and quirks :) And CrazyEyes, I have a green cheek and not a sun, but like I said I did read awhile ago that a member had a sun that would sneeze for their attention (I can't recall the thread, but if I find it I will post it here). I'll try and post a video of Avery doing this sound as soon as I can. I don't have the video on any of my devices because my boyfriend recorded it happening.

I was just curious if any one else had noticed their birds making snorting noises or anything of the sort too, or if Avery is on a whole new level of weird, hahaha! :)

My camilla macaw makes a breathy kissy noise when we give kisses. :D :red1:

My sun conure mimics of all things...the pilot light igniter of our stove..lmao..he's a special little bird smdh...

When Kiwi was sick he'd made this horrible, gurgley, dying, water in the lungs noise.

Now guess what noise he makes when he's mad.

Scared the crap outta me the first time since I thought he was regressing... Nope just a silly bird

If the noise the bird makes gets your attention you bird will make that noise. They are incredible mimics! A few weeks ago I spent the night in Savannah to celebrate a 97 year old Aunt's birthday. I had the petsitter take care of my animals. She's very good with the animals, and interacts well with my birds.

Barney, however, expressed her opinion of my absense by making spitting noises. I was instantly forgiven, though, when I presented her with her most absolutely favorite food: scrambled egg.

Sun conures are known for habitual sneezing. By that I mean a handful of times a day. When they sneeze and all the comes out is air, don't worry. It's just, from what I have learned - a form of expressing happiness, content and also a means of getting attention.

What you SHOULD worry about is if it happens regularly - like several times an hour, every hour. Chances are in that case, they are reacting to the environment.

My suns sneezes are clear air 95% of the time, I can actually often feel the air hit my neck. Occasionally he sneezes clear liquid - which if it only happens on occasion is nothing to worry about as they are doing like we do, clearing their nostrils. If they are repeatedly sneezing liquid of any form (especially discolored) it is time for a vet visit.

My sun will often sneeze just for sneezing sake when I sneeze. He also does it a lot when he's being cuddly.

First thing in the morning, a normal routine for Skittles is to make his low-pitched 'screech-screech' followed by 'kissy noises'. He also mimics 'squeaking' noises like when I clean windows or mirrors etc.

^^ yep..starburst does a hmph hpmh type of noise ..followed with a head bob and shake and flutter...that's his way of saying..how you doing ;) lol
