Do they actually eat?

Parrots
A pair of cockatiels
And pair of African Greys
I have an AG and I try to give her as much healthy food as possible, but I never know what does actually goes inside her. For example today I gave her a carrot, which she looked very enthusiastic about. She gladly excepted it and after few seconds there was no carrot anymore, at list not in its initial form, instead I had my floor covered all over with little pieces of that carrot. So I got a really beautiful orange colored floor, an AG who is very proud of a job done and me who have no idea did she really ate the carrot or just broke it into pieces. I have same concerns about other food.
Is there any way to know? Should I keep giving her carrot or is she just uses it as a toy?
Any ideas?

I'm sure some of the carrot made its way into her crop! Wait til you give her pomegranate or berries! Messy, messy, messy.

Something I do that helps with the mess and encourages more eating is to cut every piece of fruit and vegetable into pieces about the size of a pea. This works especially well with young birds learning to try new foods and older birds who have never eaten fresh foods that are new to my home.

Remember also that parrots eat the "kernel" out of foods like beans, corn, peas, rice, etc. and leave the skin. So after she is done with her dish of food there will be skins and minced pieces of foods like carrots, celery and apples left in the dish. She will have extracted the nutrients from these foods and left the skins and some fibers.
