I've decided to do the home DNA sexing testing. Can I get some advice on which online kits to use?

AvianBiotech! Don't use HealthGene.

I used avian biotech. I did the feather method. Super easy and I was shocked how quickly they posted the results online.

Yes I use them for all my sexing and disease testing. We disease test every new bird as it comes in and two random members of the flock every 6 months. All our babies, fosters, and rescues are DNA sexed unless we can tell by mutation etc; we firmly believe that it's important to know the sex of the bird in case of veterinary emergency and for handling hormones.

So you can see we do a lot of tests lol. We always use avian biotech and they are amazing, cheap, and quick. We treat health gene because they were cheaper and it was a NIGHTMARE.

If you are looking for specific prices I pay $18-$22 per test with avian biotech, health gene was $12-$15.

Thanks guys, I ordered my kits from avian biotech. They said the kits are free so I guess they just make me pay when the results come in?

When you send in the samples.

I thought I'd share my experience. Last night I did the whole DNA sexing thing which I chose to do the blood one. I'll do feather DNA testing next time.

The first patient was jazz my cockatiel. She skwermed and skwermed but I finally got some blood by clipping a little bit further and further. I then got her to bleed a little. Then it was A LOT. BLOOD EVERYWHERE. It was very hard to stop even with corn starch. She never once showed me aggression she was asking for scratches minutes later.

2nd patient was jojo my pineapple green cheek conure. I was super careful and got just enough blood and it seemed to stop right away. Then she wouldn't leave it alone and it bled and bled. It was all over her cause she was scratching herself and was flinging it everywhere. I got it to stop only for it to start again 15 min later. then again 15 min later. finally it stopped. She didn't seem mad at me at all. She was calm the whole time. didn't even skwerm.

3rd patient perry the black capped conure. even before I got to the part that bled he sqwuaked like it hurt a bunch. no blood, clipped deeper and he didn't like it one bit but I got enough blood. It was barely enough but I wasn't going to risk another bleeder. so it will have to do.

Long story short I thought since I needed to clip their nails anyways I would do the blood thing. I only got the one toe clipped on each bird I felt so bad so if I ever do it again with future birds I'll opt for the feather testing.

I’m sorry you had such a hard time.

I did the blood test as well. My husband held Levi and I performed the procedure. Once I had enough blood on the card I dipped Levi’s Nail in Kwik-Stop. It’s a blood clotting powder and it works immediately to stop the bleeding.

I prefer cornstarch. It does the same thing and it's just cornstarch so I don't have to worry about them eating it or anything.

I wanted to share that I got the results back. They are ALL MALE lol.
