Twelve years ago I bought a B&G macaw from a couple who sold baby birds but didn't do the actual breeding. Anyway, before bringing Merlin home I asked them to do a dna test. I was not there when they took and submitted the feather sample, but I received a certificate from a reliable company indicating the bird was a male.

I am now questioning if my bird's testing was correct because of Merlin's behavior. He perfers men and enjoys having the area under the wings and top of his tail scratched. When scratching above his tail, it moves upward.

I am starting to believe that Merlin is a female, but wondering if these behaviors are common to both sexes? I am tempted to have my bird dna tested again.

Are there behaviors that will help identify the sex of your bird?

I think that's his point. ;)

There are no reliable indicators, so you're basically left with DNA testing. A bird's preference for human gender is not an indicator.
