I've been struggling with getting Lincoln harness trained and it's mainly because he just doesn't wanna stick his head through it. I have been having a hard time finding any brand of flight harnesses that clip around instead of going over that have reliable reviews. I was thinking of making a a harness myself out of a sock where I could just cut it up where needed so I can just attach buttons or something so it can latch together under rings and on the back. Then sew on a leash. Do you think this would be okay to do?

If your handy with a sewing machine, why not? All it costs is 1 sock and some sweat.
Just make sure that leash on well

our sewing machine is actually broken so I was gonna do it by hand. If it means getting my boy outside I'm ready for many many bloody fingers

He problem
Is that many parrots could easily unclip or chew through a homemade harness, so I would use leather and be sure he can’t work the clup

Someone else here mentioned the "leathers for feathers" website.
They actually make parrotharnesses (is that even a word?) with an extra option/ clasp so you do not need to go around the birds head: the around-the-neck-pieces just click together on the back.

No experience- just repeating what I've read here and on their site...

That was a concern of mine too but knowing Lincoln I don't THINK he will mess with the clasps but obviously I would do a test run inside seeing how he does with it before going outside.

I have a Leathers4Feathers harness with the snap option. The customer service is excellent and she guarantees that the harness will fit. When the weather finally got good enough to put the harness on Bumble (5-6 months after I bought it), it was too big. I sent her a pic and she immediately sent me TWO more harnesses that were slightly different sizes and a tube of glue. I did want up pulling one apart and making it a touch smaller.

I highly recommend.

Here’s a pic of it unsnapped. Bumble is a parrotlet so I imagine a bigger bird would get thicker straps.

Do the harnesses come with a tube of glue to begin with? I'm not sure what kind of glue i would need to use

I think they do now. You could certainly ask for some, or ask her what kind to use. She responded to my FB messages very quickly.

I ordered from leather4feathers, they've been very quick and responsive with my questions and have reached out to me with their own questions (Lincoln's weight primarily) and has been so far very helpful. They say they ship some leather glue with the harness too which is very helpful. I'm excited to get it.

My birds don't really go for flight suits, but I do. They seem to take to Aviators better but not me. I just can't figure birds sometimes. I wouldn't wear an Aviator unless you paid me lots Of money.

I assume from the name and questions, the glue is Bird safe? About half my first LOVE to chew.

This looks very interesting, and by the look of it these would be much easier for birds who can't stand having anything put over their heads...But I'm confused about the glue part myself...Why do you need glue? I mean, what are you gluing? I'd be scared to death to have to glue any part of a harness together as a part of it's construction, simply because I can see every one of my guys chewing right through the glue and off goes the harness...

Part of the harness isn't glued down so you can adjust it to perfectly fit your bird then glue it down yourself. It has no scent and if you let it dry for the appropriate time it is safe. The glue is actually really strong and I think it actually like.. partially dissolves the leather and melts it together rather than "glue" it together as it isn't sticky.

ooo I'm gonna have to bookmark leathers4feathers. My attempt with the aviator wasn't great due to how 'fiddly' it is and I hate it going over the head so that clasp looks like a good option!
