I work at a dinosaur museum! How many kids at school can say that?
It is the Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History. My dad is the director! It's a bit small, but we're a non-profit, and we don't have a whole lot of money for advertising, so word of mouth and social media are big helpers. We rely totally on volunteers.
We have a full size T. Rex skeleton cast, which is an exact replica! And... we have a cast of one of the first birds - one of the first parrots: an arcaeopteryx! Found in the Solnhofen Limestone formation, it had preserved feathers and many features of both birds and dinosaurs!
We also have complete (cast) skeletons of Struthiomimus (name means "ostrich mimic," looks like an ostrich with a long tail), Stegoceras (pronounced "steg-AH-ser-us," small bone-headed dinosaur), and Lufengosaurus (early sauropod). Some REAL fossils we have are T. Rex and Edmontosaurus (duck-billed dinosaur) limb bones and teeth, Triceratops rib and partial skull, turtle and crocodile fossils, lots of plant fossils, and many fossils from right here in Tennessee. We also have an extensive rock and mineral collection, a jewelry studio, and a real working Paleo Lab where we work on dinosaur bones. There are no dinosaurs in TN, so every summer we go to Montana to dig up fossils, in fact I am leaving for Montana in 3 weeks! Beautiful state, I have an Instagram for our Montana pictures at montanabowie419
The gift shop has minerals, toys, and fossil casts. Admission is $7 for adults, we are open Thursday - Saturday, 11 to 4
Pearl has been to the museum, too!
