My Moloccan likes to play on the ground. Good news for him is that he'll have a place where he can do that safely very soon. I'm thinking of using a 1 inch gravel stone to cover the floor in his room. It would make cleaning easy- shovel into buckets and hose off outside.
My sulfur crested might also enjoy this kind of thing.

Does anyone have a recommendation for what to use?

An interesting idea, hopefully someone who has tried similar will post. I'd imagine the need to obtain "clean" gravel without prior treatment of any sort.

Great idea! I have no recommendations really as my (wild) boy spends most his day outside with the wild lot digging and eating roots. He loves it!!
Maybe an idea, not sure how much they are but a roll of grass that you would make a new lawn with. Perhaps buy one of those, keep it in the garden. Cut off a new piece once a week to lay in the bottom of the cage? Maybe totally impractical, I don’t know

I'm not sure if those rolls of sod are grown without fertilizers. I like the idea, but I wouldn't be able to do that all the time anyways, just too cold here for much of the year. I'm thinking smooth river stones right now, I could wash them before their first use. Anyone see any danger in this idea?

I'm planning on putting a container of garden soil and mixed weeds in Rosetta's cage. Corellas LOVE to dig and I don't see why she shouldn't dig the same soil the wild ones do. My daughter also suggested a ball-pit filled with ping-pong balls. I'm considering it (found a tupperware container that might just be the right size). :)
