Diggin' Eclectus

Our eclectus, Ruby, recently began exploring dark "caves" in our bed sheets. She'll push herself into one as far as she can go, dig for a few seconds, and occasionally wag her tail.

Is this a nesting practice?

Hi! Sounds like it could be. My Grey, Simon, loves a cardboard box in her cage. It's her favorite toy. She will spend hours in there digging away and chewing up the bottom. When it's pretty ratty, I put in a new one. You could try that. Keep us posted.

I agree that it is most likey nesting. How old is she? You may try some distracting things such as making new toys or taking her to an unfamiliar place in the home. She may be getting ready to lay some eggs.

I agree that it is a 'nesting' behavior. However I have to disagree that there is any reason to think she is actually nesting or will lay eggs. She certainly may, but this behavior is no reason to suspect it.

Many birds just enjoy doing this. I don't have experience with ekkies, but conures will ALWAYS dig under things - it seems to be the most fun Auggie ever has.

I now leave cloth napkins all over his room so he can tunnel under them, make tents, etc.

He is not nesting, nor has he ever laid an egg.
