Hi guys, might be getting a new blue & gold macaw. I'm just curious if this is consider a darker shade of blue compared to normal blue & gold macaw's blue?

And also the bird is currently 8 months old, do you guys think that the shade of blue will slowly fades off after her first major molt or something?

Really really love this shades of blue as it looks like my dream macaw which is the hyacinth macaw.

Not a MAC expert! Having said that, the overall feathering of this B&G looks very clean, like recently got a really good bath. It is not uncommon for feather coloring to dull a bit if the MAC has not gotten a good bath recently since the normal powder that allow the feathers to slide over each other tends to dull the color at bit. Plus babies always look great!

There are a ton of B&G MAC members here, so until they respond this will at least get you started.

So, would you really be able to walk away from this B&G if its colors are slightly lighter? Really?

Nope, set my eyes on her but just curious about the shades of the colour. As I've notice that some of the colours of the B&G at the bird stores is not as intense as this. More of a lighter blue shade.

Just cannot get enough of that baby B&G! Hence, repeated coping of the photo!. I'm an Amazon Snob and I'm have problems not wanting to just hold that feather ball! Hope you got a deposit on him /her, feather balls like that are not available very long! :D

You're likely correct, this ones colors are brighter. But just for an FYI, ask how old the other B&G's are, but do not tell them why you are asking. They may just increase the price, kidding a bit here!

Hahah! I love Amazons too, especially DYHA! Was told by the owner, she's a female and around 8 month old. Recall trained and currently free flying. The owner is the one that told me, she's in a much darker shade of blue and showed me a photo of her. Gonna visit her tomorrow!

What a beautiful baby :)

Usually the babies colour is stronger, than the adults, but even an adults colour changes a lot. My B&G Sugar changes colour during the year, even during a week. The day after a shower, he looks much darker, than 4 days after. Also the amount of sunlight changes it too. It sounds backwards, but Sugar gets darker the more he is outside in the sun, so during the summer, when he's out a lot, he's quite dark and now during bird flu restrictions in Denmark (all birds has to be under a roof) he is quite pale :(

That right, Europe is under restrictions from Bird Flu. I had totally forgotten! Bird Flu pasted North American with only a couple very small out-breaks! Keep Safe!!!

"Fortunately" most of the fatalities are wild birds in Denmark (Northern Europe) with only one case of domesticated birds inflicted.

I think we have been quite fortunately to not have more, but think because the authorities at only the second find of wild birds inflicted made severe restrictions on all domesticated birds. ALL birds has to be kept under roof. If you have your birds in an outdoor aviary, you need to put up a waterproof roof/tarp. You are not allowed to have your birds outside except for when you need to move them.

I am quite fortunate, I have an indoor riding arena, so I can still give my birds their flight exercize regularly with no threat to their health AND no threat to my furniture ;)

I guess it's better than a whiter shade of pale....
