I've never lived in a big city. My city is very small.
Well, I went to Washington. I know, it's probably not a 'big' city, but it's larger than mine.
Well, looking at Craigslist is depressing.
I looked, and one of the first listings was some parakeets ('baby parakeets') that were bought at petsmart, in a tiny cage, thought to be male and female (even thought the 'girl' was lutino so it's very hard to sex them. And they're under a year, so you can't, right?), eating seed, with 1 sand paper perch 1 dowel perch. Why were they bought? The husband thought their 3 YEAR OLD daughter would like them. Oh, yeah, and now the daughter doesn't like them so they're getting rid of them. And the mom isn't a bird person.
I emailed them with tips on how to make the birds lives happier while they found a home, since rehoming parrots can take a while, and I hope they didn't take offense. I emphasized on the birds emotions and how they're like little dogs, hoping they'd understand why I simply wanted them to have an easier life.
Then I saw a cockatoo that was plucking.
And some goldfish in a 2.5 gallon take. For those who are unaware, a single goldfish needs 20 gallons, and an extra 10 for each extra goldfish. If you have a strong filter you might be able to get away with a 10 gallon for a single goldfish, but they still grow so large they need room.
Just. Ugh. And there were free kittens, and just. Ugh.
It's so depressing.
I know I post a lot about Craigslist, and it's usually good things. We have a great petco that educates people, but seeing these birds is just sad.
Anywho, sorry I haven't been around. Seeing so many birds just makes me depressed, especially the asiatics (like alexadrines and especially ringnecks).
