Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
...thought I'd show before/after pics of the Cozy Covers "Uncle David" got for the kids..they seem to really enjoy being covered, don't hear a peep from them until they get uncovered in the morning.

I want an uncle like that! :)

Nice job!

Jim, that's the one I use. Nike quiets right down when I cover her and stays quiet (notwithstanding the crunching sound of her Harrison's pellets) until I remove the cover.

Nike is not bothered in the slightest by putting on or removing the cover.

I use that brand too and I love it. My only complaint is that it hasn't held up well to repeated washing, but the tears that have started area going to be easy enough to fix, as they are along the seams.

I am thrilled that the kids like them so much :D They both quiet down within minutes. Like Bill said about his Nike..the only thing I hear from Amy is her munching on a couple bedtime pellet snacks :p Beebs will chirp/twittle until I tell him "shhhhh it's night-night time!" and not a peep from them until morning.

In the short time they have had these covers I am convinced it's the thing to do. Amy seems more alert and active and vocal cause she's getting a good nights sleep..it also could be due to her heart meds too.

I looked all over the place for a cover that would fit Trigger's cage. We got him the Kings Cage SLP 4030 which has a playtop with a toy hook that isn't removable. That made it impossible to work with even the "Universal" covers that I could find that were big enough and accommodated a playtop.

So I bought 8 yards of black cotton/poly broadcloth and made my own. I gotta say, I'm quite proud of it! I even put handles on the top and two velcro strips to help keep it closed. All the supplies cost me about $40. :D

I did the same thing! We have a Preview Hendryx Stainless Steel cage with a playtop. None of the covers fit, so I bought fleece and made the cover with Velcro closures. It works great, except Sam hates it. When I try to use it, he cowers in the corner. So, now he has his own room to sleep in.

I'm sure all of us would LOVE to see a picture of your handiwork! :09:

Now if that isn't talent I don't know what is:confused: That's a beautiful job you should be very happy with the outcome.

Re: Covers.. Storing

How do you folks who have large covers store them? The one for Amy is rather large and I kind of drape it over a table in the living room. now with Christmas nearly here,David would like to put the covers away somehow but don't just want to fold them and put them in a closet on the floor and make it difficult for us to pick them up...both of us have really bad backs and bending over just plain ol sucks!

Okay, it probably sounds terrible to admit this but two of my cages are taller and longer than me, so I don’t actually take the covers all the way off....I can’t get them back on by myself if I do take them off :). I roll the big ones back in the morning and roll them back out to cover at night lol. It still involves me running back and forth from one end of the cage to the other to roll them back.....but there’s far less cursing involved than when I try to take them off and put them on. Stanley’s cage is shorter than me - so his cover I take off and roll it up into a ball and put it in a plastic tote that sits on a tv table beside his cage (my husband got tired of always finding it draped on one of the dining room chairs).

Amys' cover is very large. Her house with play top is as tall as me (about six feet) and is three feet wide. We marked it with a piece of masking tape that's says "front/top" so we know how the orientation should be. I have it down to a science now. When I remove the cover in the morning I drape it across the small table in the living room and kind of fold it in half. Even putting it on I can do it myself in just minutes. I first take the part that goes over the BACK of her house and slide that part over first while arranging the front and sides. It helps greatly with that piece of tape. When the tape is in the front/top I know its on correctly.

Oh thank you! I'm really proud of it, I've only been sewing for about 6 months (since high school home economics). My machine also does embroidery so yesterday I added Trigger's and Yoda's names to their covers.

Maybe I should start up a side business making custom covers? :03:

Totally!!

(of course only for fun, nothing loses its shine faster that to *have* to do something, even when you love it)

I bought a decorative laundry hamper that looks nice in my living room turned bird room, and I fold up the covers and put them in the hamper. The hamper lives on edge of the fire place (that we don't use), so I don't have to bend all the way over to the floor.
