I brought Coqui into the shop for the first time today! She stayed in her carrier for a few minutes then I put her carrier up to the cage at the store and she crawled out onto the floor of the cage and began to tear up the newspaper. LOL! She was clearly nervous, but was brave enough to come outside of the cage and climb around. Of course before too long, she got on the floor, so I got her on her perch and put her on the playgym we built for her at the store. She squawked now and then when a customer came into the store, but everyone was patient with her as I told them it was her first time in. She was a little stubborn getting back into her carrier. But she finally got in. All in all, I thought it went well. Here are some pics:

Enjoying her new playgym

can you imagine if Coqui got loose in your store??...it's a birds paradise in there!she would have an absolute blast exploring all those beautiful things you have on those shelves.

great play gym, all in all it sounds like she did really well.
it must have been a bit stressful for you but well worth it I'm sure

Looks like she's settling in pretty good. How is she at home so far??? :)

YAYYY!!! Coqui's first day at work went pretty well, me thinks. :D

I swear, she can look so ornery in some pictures, and then SO darn sweet and adorable in others. I crack up when I see her shackles (you all know I mean feathers ;) ) go all up, especially around her head. TOO funny!!!

So how many hours did she spent in Paradise...I mean your store? How did she do when people came in?

I think this was GREAT for her! It'll give her confidence and it will socialize her even more. :D

aww how cute! she looks like she likes that awesome playgym!!

I have a similar one at home for her, and she loves them! I just need to add some eye hooks for toys and it will be good to go!

If anyone of my birds would like wandering in my store, it would be Coqui! LOL! She would reek havic in here! The day was stressful for both of us. But we have to start somewhere! ;)

Looks like she had a great day.

She was nervous, but not the whole time. I know that will get better as she adjusts to the surroundings.

Funny that you ask! She was great when we got home. Got right our of her carrier and was being a good girl UNTIL she decided to get on my kitchen counter. I had her playgym to close to it. I don't allow her to wander up there without good supervision because she gets into things. LOL! Well normally in that situation I would have grabbed her wooden perch to put her back on her perch. I do that when she is on the floor because she is stubborn about stepping up. Well I decided to try getting her on my arm. She gave me a quick nip then when I tried putting her on her playgym she gave me a good bite (still hurts this morning) and flew to the window seal. Started chewing on the Christmas cards I hadn't mailed yet. LOL! Went to get her on the perch and she flew again, right into Savannah. And yes she is clipped, but can fly a few feet. Savannah took it well. I finally got her on the perch and put her in her cage. She calmed right down and let me give her scritches before bed. Was it from the stress of the day? Maybe. We all know Macaws can be stubborn, so it could of just been her in a defiant mood. She was a sweet heart this morning in either case!

That is Coqui for you...sweet one minute and ornery the next! LOL! :D It's going to take some time for her to adjust to seeing strangers on a regular basis here. But the stress for both of us was worth it. She deserves this. We have to start somewhere. And I know that once she gets used to the store and realizes it's a safe place to be, she will love it! Anything new takes time and patience. And we've got plenty of that!

She was here for a couple of hours. We wanted to start small. She squawked now and then when people came in. She was also agitated and wouldn't let me pet her when people were in the store. Strangers make her nervous. You can't blame her since for 9 of her 10 years she was stuck in an 8 foot aviary in a backyard with only one visitor a day in the morning to feed her! I am confident she will adjust once she knows she is safe. We purposely waited to bring her in January because it is one of the slowest months of the year for us. It's a good way to ease her into this.

I have Coqui with me here today for her second visit at work and she is doing wonderfully! Much better then her first visit! She has been playing, staying on her cage and not wandering, getting into mischief and much more relaxed! I am so happy she is easing into this! Yay! Here are some pics I took today:

She is looking FANTASTIC, Blanca!!!!! :D :D :D

Look at the pretty face on her! It's got "mischief" written ALL over it. ;)

I LOVE that you took her back to paradise...I mean your store. I truly think this will socialize her SO much.

What a stunning girl!! That first pic she's got the "Mohawk" going on. HAHAHAH!!! :D

I am soooo glad I brought her in today and for the WHOLE day! I really think she's been having fun! She has definitely been in mischief mode today, but she has been learning the rules and listening. So that is a good thing!

She has been squawking when customers come in, but I do see an improvement. My customers are awesome and have been really tolerant when I explain it is only her second visit and her first all day visit.

I think she is starting to get the benefits of being here.

What I think Coqui is thinking

"Let's see:

1) I have mama with me all day.
2) I get to hang outside the cage all day.
3) I get extra special treats while I'm here.

This isn't such a bad gig after all!"

Hee hee!

SO many benefits there for Coqui, not a single bad thing!!! :D I LOVE how you interpreted what's going through her mind!! LOL
