Hello! I am considering either a Hahn's Macaw or a GC Conure. We will move into either a house or an apartment. I handle noise OK, but are the neighbours likely to complain? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
I don't have any experience with Hahn's Macaws, but I do have a GCC and he does scream some, but at least for him his volume isn't loud enough for neighbours to hear him. You would be safe with either in a house, I'm not sure about the Hahn's in an apt., but hopefully someone with experience with them will be able to answer that:)

Hi and Welcome to the forum I cant comment on the noise level of either the GCC or the Hans Macaw but Im sure lots of others will be able to help answer your questions.

Thank you for your answers, I am in a heavy research-phase right now. Does anyone have experience with other birds?

I have a GCC, a lovebird and an amazon. My GCC and lovie would be fine in an apt as neither could get the volume loud enough to bother neighbors. But my zon could and would get loud enough! She doesn't bother me and has her times in the day only but still.

Doublete,
Thank you very much! At about what times does you GCC vocalize?

Uhm.... I think he follows my zon so I wouldn't say he has a specific time. My zon goes off morning afternoon and sometimes evening.

OK, that's absolutely fine :). I will probably stick with the GCC!

I was reading someone's question on a Forum:
: Thirdly, do not tell her about their screech. They are loud. I'm talking offensively loud. And they are very needy. My conure screeches non stop when ever I leave her alone. So just avoid that whole aspect. '
I realize there aernt really conure-experts there, but they have a conure... Are they exaggerating or is it a pne-off loud bird? Sorry for the questions, I am confused! *sigh*

I have good knowledge about Patagonian Conures, having lived with one for over 30 years and done my share of reading about the species. Whatever you do, please don't get a Patagonian if noise is any issue at all! I love my bird endlessly, but he and his kind are famous for their frequency and intensity of vocalizations. Good for you, for taking the issue so seriously. And good luck!

Yes: I have heard that about many conures- noise. Suns, Jendays and the like seem to have a reputation of loudness!
:')
But I am pretty sure GCC are the relatively quiter of the conjures, by most opinions.

Sun Conures are amazing but stay away from them if you are trying to avoid loud noise. Of course with birds everything is relative when it comes to noise but there are some that are known to be way louder than others for sure.

My friend, it's good you are asking questions, but the bottom line is; parrots make noise. Some make a lot, some make less, and yes, it can be a species thing but it's also what you put into the parrot, and how you train it, both on purpose and inadvertantly. You can get a species not known for being real screamers and because you didn't read enough on how to react to screaming only teach the parrot to scream more. Or you could get one that everyone says is really loud, and it will be a quiet bird, because it just is. Our Salty is an amazon, but he doesn't do the morning and evening screamathon, and is only loud when my wife is prepping dinner. And even then it's more laughing and a lot of Amazon mumbling. So do what you are doing... read and research, and let the bird pick you, if possible. Welcome to the parrot forum.

Thank you, Mr. Good Wrench. I was rolling those ideas around in my head, but wasn't sure how to put it. You nailed it.

Thanks, I am looking into a Parrot Training a behaviour course or guide. I know with parrots everyrhing is confusing! Loudness anyway.

On the parrot loudness scale... My GCC is a 3. My lovie is a 4. And my zon is a 7.
Can be but not always. Just capable

Wow! Is your love really louder than a GCC? Some people have it the other way round :)
But I guess it is personal for the bird.
