Oh I know- my mom has a manufactured home and they're trying to sell right now, well they discovered that there's probably no tyvek under the siding, and they probably didn't even secure the two parts of the house together  They've had alllllllll sorts of problems.... :/ but our house will be stick-built and not a manufactures home, thank goodness!

Activity on our house has been at a stand-still....until today!

They're putting our septic tank in the ground right now

They've also FINALLY covered the drain field for the other septic field (for the in-law's house) which is in the middle of the horse's pasture, so she's been on dry-lot these last few weeks because she's not allowed in the field. And boy has she been mad about it!!!! Now they can finally rearrange the fencing to create a flag-lot type pasture so she can finally go back to grazing.

The foundation people will be here this afternoon or tomorrow morning to start on our foundation.

Yesterday they were able to get both parts of our septic system in the ground! Because our drain field's location in retrospect with the embankment that drops 100ft+ at 60 degrees, we are required to have a specialized system.

So, all waste from the house goes into the regular septic tank first..

Then it goes into a mini processing plant through all these microbial filters

It will have a permanent Internet connection with constant monitoring by an outside vendor to make sure all is well. This means we can't use harsh chemicals or bleach.
After the waste goes through our mini plant it goes out into the drain field to dissipate into the ground.

That's awesome news. It is always exciting to see the progress of your house being built.

How exciting !! Have plans for the Bird Room ? I was reading your post on missing Jackie . I see more birds in your future . Tell your husband LOOK OUT [you may be getting a touch of bird fever :) )

No, no bird room :( ..not yet anyways. Chili will have run of the house though once she gets her flight feathers back in. We will be converting the garage at some point to a media/game room where the cats and dogs can be when the birds are out.

But yes- there ARE more birds in our future :D my first order of business is to get a decent sized (BIG!) budgie flight cage and get Quigley some friends. Then at some point I'd like to take a trip to the Oregon exotic bird rescue to peruse the rescues there...see if any have a connection. I've been reading stories of their current rescues and some of them are just sad :(

Today they came back and took all the forms off, so the foundation is officially done!

Next they'll back fill dirt up to the foundation, and the garage area will be filled with gravel to bring the grade up. Also, the framers can come in and start building walls!

This is so great, sharing your excitement as your house goes up. Thanks for the updates! I'll be over for a cuppa as soon as you have a kitchen to make it in. LOL!

Interesting foundation- I've not seen the like in this country. We either have a complete slab (so no crawlspace) with all the waterworks moulded in, or brick footings with a wood (or composite) floor. Nice soil too (where I've lived it's mostly either rust red dust, sand, or combination of the two plus rocks:)) I see nice veggies coming from that black soil! Thanks for all the updates.

Yeah, concrete foundations like this are pretty common here.

We live in the pacific NW so it's raining 9 months of the year lol but we also are right next to a major river, so our soil is really nice :)

I plan on having a garden and hubby's going to build a greenhouse, so as long as the moles stay away I should be ok!! Lol

I turned around for a moment and ALL of this is done now???

NICE!!!!!! I'm with Trish on the cup of java. ;)
