I'm a new member, and I am enjoying this place!
Recently, a long-time member, Wrench13, messaged me privately, to say that he had observed some of my videos and photos, and he was wondering if the Rickeybird had enough toys in his cage and play areas. He even offered to send me some of the toys his Amazon had rejected. My first reaction was... hey, I've had my bird for 30 years, thank you for the good will, but... we're fine. But I thought it over and realized I had become lazy about providing toys. So I said to him... yeah, please, send me the toys! I need to get back on track! He sent me the toys (OMG what generosity, 5 amazing toys). After routine sterilization, I offered them to the Rickeybird who LOVED 4 of them... the fifth is just HUGE!!!! He'll need some time to get brave around it!).
Please allow me to share some pictures.
#1 - Here he is, giving this thing a piece of his mind before attacking it.
#2 - Here he is, pummeling a plastic foraging toy with a chile pepper. For some reason, he loves to beat up certain toys with a chile. He grabs the chile and whacks the toy into submission!
#3 - He's doing happy battle with a string of wooden chunks.
#4 - Okay, this takes some explaining. He likes to pick some toys up and shake them. Buttttt... sometimes the toy attacks back, like in this case: it bounced up and smacked him on the head. It's very bouncey!!! What you see is a tail-feather as our little warrior beats a hasty retreat. But... he'll be ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-ck!!!!
So. My humble message: never get complacent. Never think you know it all. Be open-minded.
Thank you, Mr. Wrench! And Salty, you chicken boy! The Rickeybird WORE HIMSELF OUT tonight, and is soundly asleep now!
I'm so glad I found this place!
