Two Cockatiels: Rascal (Geraldine) and his baby brother named Coconut!
Random short vid of Coconut's progress in flying to me on command. I always have to repeat "come here" five thousand times it's very annoying anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I think I need to get a training perch and get the shorter distances perfected before having him fly across house to me... but at least he comes to me with or without sunflower treat hehe :D

EDIT: As I'm giving him the sunflower seed as a treat telling him he's a good bird he's thinking "yeah yeah I know" LOL

Juliet, at least Coconut does "eventually " come to you lol..but ya,maybe trying it from a closer distance would work better for "Nut..

And the next video you have of him chowing down on a cashew...man he was getting into it lol.

LOL... that was the next video I was going to post of Coconut attacking a cashew. He almost choked a couple of times because he was eating it so fast! He looked thirsty afterwards so I offered him water but he didn't want any water... he wanted more cashew!! I only give him one cashew a day though. They don't like walnuts, brazil nuts or any other nuts... cashews are their favorite. Mine too :) I swear just watching him eat that cashew makes me thirsty LOL

GaleriaGila,
Hey that's what I always say to people! LOL

After watching the cashew video Amy and I went out for a ride. I stopped at the local Muki Mart where TJ <the owner> adopted Jonesy, and I got Amy a bag of honey roasted cashews..for her and BB.

Got home and Amy took one bite and dropped the rest on the floor..and BB was in his house,so I offered him one,he looked up at me and the nut,but still would not take it from my fingers! So I dropped it in his nummy bowl.

FINE then!! I love cashews...all the more for me! :p

I get plain unsalted and dry roasted cashews... meaning they weren't roasted with oil. Most of the ones they sell in stores are roasted in tons of oil and salt making them unhealthy and super salty, icky! Try giving them dry roasted and unsalted nuts I think they will like it much better and soooo much healthier :D

I get my nuts from www.nuts.com but stores like Whole Foods and some other grocery stores sell dry roasted and unsalted...

it might be that saying come here as much is the problem. Because you repeat it so many times, it could be causing him to not realize what exactly he is supposed to be doing, or possibly not attach it with flying to you at all. Or, he could be thinking "he is just going to keep saying it, i'll just go when I feel like it"

I would suggest going back to not giving a command, just giving him a treat when he does fly to you, until you can get it a bit more consistent. Then, when you do say come here, only say it once, and if he doesn't listen within a short time span, change the trick, maybe make him step up and then back down, then repeat the process. If he continually still doesn't listen within a short time, go back to doing it with no command and make sure he really understands the "trick" and gets that the 2 are connected.

Whole Foods stores *do* have good almonds (and other stuff)!

Thanks for the advice... I will try that. I also need to by a training perch stand as I haven't tried teaching him to fly to me on command in a much shorter distance enough. I need to buy one of these because otherwise he will just walk away and start playing on his cage top: PT The Percher

Yup... they have tons of unsalted dry roasted nuts including tasty cashews :)

I take my tiel grocery shopping at whole foods and everyone LOVES him there. On the rare times I don't have Rascal with me lots of the employees there start asking "what happened to your bird?"... "how come you don't have your bird with you today!?!?". He's quite popular LOL.

EDIT: One of the cashiers there is a Hungarian lady... she is very nice and we speak hungarian to each other hehe... and the other cashier owns a bird rescue (he has about 40+ tiels!!) including an emo

My Bad, I meant to type "emu" not "emo". He has an emu like this and it loves to lay down and cuddle with him... the emu is a rescue. He takes in birds other people no longer wanted.... mostly tiels... one love bird and then this emu. I didn't even know what an emu was until he showed me pic... bird is size of a horse LOL
